Noticed that many have been criticising him a lot lately. He has been playing in the back pocket and rotating through the midfield but his main focus is to give us some pace out of defense.

Average stats according to Pro STats:

12 games, 21.8 disposals, 13.7 kicks, 5.8 marks, 8.2 handballs, 2.6 tackles, he leads the team for frees against.

his Best game this year 29 disposals against the WCE

Remember these are the average over 12 games. Personally I think his stats aren't too bad and maybe some people are being hasty or looking for fault because he doesn't seem to be one of the main play makers at present.

thoughts?

It's really only the long bombs to contested areas that bother me about Enright's game at times, as he can be a shanker. Other than that, I don't think there's any reason to drop him.

Lowest no. of disposals in the team yesterday (with Mark Blake) - just was not his day - didn't seem to handle the conditions and was not played to, too often. He's reliable usually, despite criticism of his kicking.

Yeah, his kicking is really very ordinary, but on many occasions he has proven his worth in defense by dropping into the hole. I think the reads the play quite well, and so is good at getting to the spot where the ball is going, and taking the mark in front of the leading forward.
And even though he shanks his kicks, he often kicks them long, so there aren't too many turnovers in dangerous spots.

I dont know the exact stats, but do we not have the best defence in the league at present? I have heard Scarlett, Milburn, etc comment that the continuity of having the same blokes there week in, week out is half the reason why it is working so well. Why people are calling for it to be changed is beyond me...Enright does his job as part of this defence, its just that people are always on the lookout for someone to put the spotlight on...

I reckon the those critisising him are being a bit over the top. He reads the game well, is good overhead for his size, is bloody fit and runs out games well and provides good run out of defence with Wojcinski and Scarlett. Sure he shanks a few kicks but he is hardly Robinson Crusoe there.

Who would you replace him with? Hunt, well he has his detractors. Callan? Don't think so.

I reckon Enright is the best bet for his position at the moment. I can't remember too many of his opponents kicking a bag on him this year.

The stats can lie - as has been said, his disposal can be pretty woeful at times. Having said that I think a lot of the bad wrap on him is a hangover from last year, when he was seen as one of the worst offenders with regards to the 'chip chip' crap and the worst with regards to mindless long bombs into thye forward 50. Partly I think that was as much the fault of the gameplan as his own, and his already terrible delivery didn't help. This year he's been solid without being outstanding, and has been a fairly important part of the 'tsunami football' off half back.

I've said it on posts before, that I found it funny that people are calling for him to be dropped, and even traded.

Look for the people who have no idea about the game and rate the one or two bad kicks that a player commits during a game, he is getting the ball more than ever in his career.

All from the back pocket.

I have my thoughts on the guy. He is starting to get more possessions, but the interesting fact is that he creates so much run out of the last line of defence. In the past that was Milburn's job, which seems to be taken over by Enright.

Plus IMO, he plays a little taller than what he actually is. This helps us out a lot as we also have guys similar, i.e. Mackie, who play tall and give us that opportunity to really take out smaller teams.

Along with about half the team, Corey Enright has made himself better, being able to run more and get his hands on the ball more this season. Who could argue with that, more so who can list this guy for the scrap heap.

We certainly can't.

I'm also (unashamedly) in the Enright corner -

Really surprised that some folks think he is a liability. Has been a consistent performer for 2 years now. Not a match winner but his ball reading, marking and agility out of the backline is important. REminds me of Milburn in the late 90's.

Whilst his kicking is not brilliant, he is not in the bottom third of the team in this regard and (as alluded to above) his ability to get around 50-60 metres on a kick should not be undervalued.

Would not let Corey go unless we hit big problems with the salary cap and even then would have to be for a pick not less than 20.

Any one that is calling for him to be dropped is an Idiot.
Very good footballer, has done nothing wrong all year. Is n\in our best back Six without a doubt!!!!!!!!!

Who would you replace him with and dont say Rooke as he is already in the best 22.
Hunt inconsistent
Callan not up to it
D Johnson battler
Spencer give me a break

None of these would be any value up against Enright. Does lots of good football without a lot of recognition. Simillar role to a younger Milburn (just read the post before me and agree totally)

I get such a laugh reading posts like this and many above. When we were losing games there was a negative Enright thread, now we are winning its all positive about the guy? There were very few arguing his worth while we were losing too. The fact his he hasn't lifted all that much during our winning streak, he has been pretty consistant this year and not that great in my opinion as I've stated before.

As I've said earlier, I find the guy one dimensional. Gets the lowest ratio of contested:uncontested possessions in the team + doesn't use the ball well / hurt the opposition. Its known he has a very high free kick against count too.. this is from being second to contests more often than not. I'm a believer in the outside reciever, but not one that bombs away into forward 50 without hitting chests. A receiver should use the ball well. Add to this the fact that he is rarely needed to be accountable or accounted for by the opposition, in other words chances are there is an opposition player running around getting the same amount of touches as Enright, possibly hurting us more as Enright uses badly.

I realise you all seem to hate any negativity on this board unless we're losing, but it doesn't hurt to see things from a different perspective.

Lots of love in the room for Mr Enright tonight. Don't know what all the fuss is about really.

No need to drop him, just need to trade him at the end of the year as others will develop to take his place. He has done pretty well, just has too many deficiencies for my liking especially stacked against others.

High second round maybe late first round if we are lucky - will allow us to keep developing our list nicely into the future.
