Sure i get that but after 2ish years surely people miss family or at least understand that others miss family and friends. Most of the people i know in Perth are expats as well.

No, if you leave WA and go to another state for, say, a family emergency / death or whatever and the border changed while you were over there and you got stuck and happen to post your story online, they will just pile on and say that you knew the risks, suck it up. It's astonishing.

Sure he's taken some hits with his stupid decisions but he's got massive supporter over there. He'd have to be drunk, wearing a Freo jumper and run over and kill NicNat and Josh Kennedy for enough to turn on him.

I actually had a look at the 2016 census numbers a few weeks back. The population of WA then, from memory was around 2,460,000 of those 1,016,000 were either born overseas or both of their parents were. That's 40% of the population right there. There must also be 100s of 1,000s people who have relocated over there from other states and territories who still have families and friends over east. That's a big slice of the population that will want to visit people in places other than WA at some point. You'd think at some point there will be a huge groundswell of opposition to what he's doing but there's only bits and pieces at the moment that I can see.

Well done to the WA premier, if he wants to keep COVID out so the locals can live a normal life good luck to him.

What’s the plan for Victoria? We don’t have one. Our only plan is to get vaccinated and get your booster shot.

They are out of ideas. They’re just sitting in the background and letting us all catch COViD with no plan to stop it spreading. They have totally lost control.

Nobody is checking into QR codes anymore, nobody is checking for vaccination status. I’ve caught COViD, I have no idea where from, my uncle has caught it and spread it to his son and grandkid. He also has no idea where he could have caught it.

These numbers have no hope of coming down. They will only increase. With everyone using RAT test these days, how many are actually reporting they have COViD? It means they have to isolate for 7 days. How are we supposed to trust that everyone is doing the right thing? How many people are just walking around doing their business knowingly having COViD?

It’s out of control here and we have no solution so good luck to the WA premier if he wants to keep it out.

Correct, McGowan is looking east and seeing:
  • hospitals at code brown
  • 30+ deaths per day
  • supply chain issues, panic buying again
  • severe undersupply of rats
  • shadow lockdown
  • ideas of kids driving forklifts
  • etc

and said to himself 'f*** that'. Yes there will be the 10% who are inconvenienced by this but they are still the minority.

Once school starts for the eastern states and we see 'Let it rip 2.0' there will probably be another wave of sick/isolating parents leading to the same issues we've already faced.

We need kids back at schools..
not because they missed so much face to face. oh no..As business want workers back.
Honestly 2020 LNP said kids cannot get COVID.. now they do not even bother pretending.
5-10% of the workforce be out if schools not back...
Need those worker ants back.. International students now can work 40 hours a week.. we do not care if you study
15 year olds out there on those fork lifts tomorrow. no need for a license..

Scotty not even pretending he cares about the little folk now. all expendable so big business can make more cash
Alternative who knows Labour just as bad.. look after their mates as well

Isn't it the states that control lockdowns/restrictions

Ummmm. Can you please tell me McGowans plan that isn't get vaccinated and get your booster?

I'm feeling a lot better now after reading the report from the WA CHO. He seems pretty level headed and fully agree with the call the delay the opening until mid March. Anything past March would mean the boosters on the elderly (like my Mum) will start to have little effect and opening in Winter would be a disaster. It's weird McGowan keeps this guy locked in the basement, I guess it's hard to push the fear he needs with actual facts.

Every other CHO gets ripped for being media hungry and wanting to be front and centre so that's another one that you can't really win either way either as the CHO themselves or the Premier.

Talking of CHOs, here's the Queensland one today on the number of active cases in the state:

"It's almost certainly greater than a million — we don't know the true number because not everybody is getting tested — either because their symptoms are mild, they don't recognise the symptoms, they don't seek to get tested or they can't get access to a test," Dr Gerrard said.

He also stated they haven't reached their peak.

Why would WA voluntarily want in on that?

i'm curious as to why omicron might be seen to quickly peak then disappear. is it related to the virus itself or external factors like the population laying low? it's not because there's no-one to infect for the first time. going by the diagnosed cases (obviously not all of them), countries top out at 1 in 3 or 4 being infected.
the answers might be somewhere like the usa, who have a population that will largely do whatever the * they want.

Well, you do your best to make sure you don't get it. Curbing your activities and socialising for a few weeks can be done. I realise those who have to work each day need to be hypervigilant and ensure that their workplaces are reasonably protected by protocols. You are lucky, like Queensland, that your population is fairly spread out, which makes it easier to have distance between each other. If it's inevitable that a virus will spread throughout the community, you need to take the health advice and get vaxed and boosted at the very least.

I must say I have confidence in our new CHO, he's a plain speaker and everything he's said so far has proved to be accurate.

Meanwhile, Queensland has 884 cases in hospital and 52 in ICU. Out of "greater than a million" cases.

Dumb question: if you think you may have had a mild case weeks ago, how do you tell?
Depends how many weeks ago. You might still test positive on a RAT or PCR

There is not a question of letting in Covid or not letting in Covid. There is only the question of letting in Covid now or later. And conditions will never be more favorable for WA than allowing it in right now.
