Anybody else see this on OWAAT? Cotchin missed a clutch goal with about 2 minutes left in the Sydney match. After the match he kept his jumper on, and while still wet tried to simulate the moment again in order to nail it next time. Shows the calibre of the bloke :thumbsu:

The Cotchin love affair shits me to tears.
OK you're a Freo fan and come in blind but Cotchin this Cotchin that,I love him and hes an amazing talent, but where are the threads about Cotchins incredibly bad mistakes in the first quarter yesterday? Just seeking some balance.

Cotch kept us in it in the first quarter. He was dominant.

It was his second half that needed work. Didn't touch it for the third quarter and made a few howlers (including that goal) in the fourth.

He really needs to straighten out his kicking for goal - he would have had more shots at goal this year than Martin, but he's struggling to convert.

Being tagged every week with no instances to break the ag means he has to spend additional petrol tickets early in a game, and therefore at times is spent in the later parts of games !

His output this year, even whilst being heavily tagged, has been quite phenomenal really... all things considered.

SPOT ON !
Needs to improve his conversion. There are a whole bunch of guys i would prefer the ball with, in situations where he has had time to make a snap for goal.

You guys have completely lost the plot. He's 20yrs old and is basically carrying our entire midfield.

Wake the f*uck up! Deserves every single bit of admiration he receives.

Agree with most of this mate, except for the carrying the midfield part. Thankfully, our midfield is a lot less reliant on individuals these days, and as they all progressively get better over the next couple of years, will become very very good in deed.

If Cotch improves at the rate he has done this year, a few leopards who have posted in this thread will change their spots quicker than Clarke Kent changed into Superman.

Well i haven't lost the plot, i just try and see things for what they are.
Which point in particular do you actually disagree about.
He's actually 21, but thats completely irrelevant. He's still very young.
Actually recognising your own weaknesses is required, in order to be able to improve on them. Ala: Cotch going back onto the field to practice kicking the goal shows that.

Well, if scoring every possible goal this season were the most important thing, then yes, there'd be a hand full of other guys who I'd prefer taking the shot. Only a hand full, mind you.

But, for the sake of the future, I'm more than happy for Cotch to get the opportunity to take shots at goal as often as possible, even if it means missing a few. Some of us are pretty confident that with practice, he will make perfect ;)

Fact of the matter is, he has had only ONE full preseason. For him to be producing the output he has is nothing short of remarkable. He influences games like no other 21 year old midfielder bar Joel Selwood (I think he is 21). Complaining about his goal kicking (kicked 4 against Freo) and the odd errant handball? I mean seriously what are some of you guys on about? Take a look at the moment of play against Essendon where he picks up a half-volley at full tilt, turns a player inside out then offloads a 20m handball to Nahas who doesn't break stride.

He is going to one of the top-line midfielders in the comp in the next couple of years. FACT. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful ride Trent Cotchin's brilliance will bring for the next 10 years.

Could not have said this better myself

Actually, Joel is 23. Cotchin is the same age as most players in the 08 draft, such as Hartlett, Rich, Hill, and he compares favourably to all of them, not to mention those from him own draft year.

He does carry our midfield, and its not right that he should have to coming off one preseason and at his age. Martin is a star but has rightfully been spared the pressures of being a full time onballer at the age of 19. Cotchin is second in the league in clearances (behind Boyd) and inside 50s (behind Sylvia), and number one in a ridiculous amount of stats at Richmond. Without him we'd be seriously, seriously struggling.

He has been making a few errors, and you'd be blind not to see them - but you'd also have to be blind not to see that they come from having the weight of our entire team on his shoulders, not to mention the tagger he inevitably attracts from another team.

He makes the odd errror?
Some guy called Chris Judd makes the odd error. Fact of the matter is, its players like Chris Judd who's pro's outweigh their cons significantly.
I see the odd Cotchin error (usually due to being under extreme pressure) totally offset by his overall sheer brilliance. Whereas errors made by the Edwards and Whites' of this world are frowned upon more heavily, as their cons are not so heavily outweighed by their positive pieces of play.

Fact of the matter is, Trent Cotchin is not only exceptionally talented, but he works his absolute arse off. He brings so much to this footy club and by the looks of it will do so for the next 10years. Football clubs are built around players like Cotchin.

I think Cotch is a superstar but I don't see the point in practicing after the game is over.
Match conditions and practice are two completly different things, I would rather he be with the rest of the team getting a debrief.

Loving this sort of thread rather than the old 'we are crap and we should sack this guy and that guy and blah blah blah'. Good to see people arguing over which of our young stars are best!!

Need a win this week, big game needed from the Cotch!!:thumbsu:

Really?
I don't think it had anything to do with him practising the actual play/shot.. he has probably kicked a million of them from thereabouts at training.
It was more about a very dedicated and professional player... so disappointed in a result, going over a scenario to really let the loss sink in type thing.

I liked it!

Shows he hurts like hell with a loss... maybe more than some and that is was seperates champions from just excellent players IMO.
