THIRTEEN AND CLOSING
As Dimma said his inside game is elite and it is showing, for a 21 yr old with 1 pre-season it's scary to think how good he can get.

As you can see he's in some pretty elite company.

His effective clearances are also ahead of the likes of Judd and Swan who are consider amongst the best in the game.

He's also 5th in total first possessions, 13th first possessions per game & 7th in total cont poss and 15th in cont poss per game.

So next time you criticise him about missing a goal, be mindful that he's busting his gut in the middle winning more ball than anyone whilst having a tag hanging off his back as well.

Without seeing those stats I'd have thought he may have been further in front and the next closest to him in contested posessions would have been Jackson or Grigg( who has impressed me ).
Jacksons first 2 weeks IMO where first class, and I have been a critic.
I aint a huge fan of stats so excuse my ignorance but is it possible to gain the above stats solely from ball-ups or boundary throw ins and further seperated to reflect inside the centre square percentages ?

Not sure about throw ins but he's equal number 1 for centre square clearances:

This guy is already elite. Absolutely no doubt about it. Scary to think how good our midfield will be in a couple of years with Cotchin, the demi-god we call Martin, Foley, Conca, Deledio, Grigg, Jackson and possibly another 1st rounder.

Kinda get the feeling Cotchin will be/already is the glue that makes this midfield what it is. Just makes other players look good, has always got time and makes THE RIGHT DECISIONS.

Officially have a man-crush on Trent Cotchin.

Whoah, had no idea Cotchin was doing this well. Leading the league in effective clearances, that's amazing.

How much impact do you guys reckon having Cousins at the club has had? I reckon he must have taught some of our young guys about contested possession...

I still worry about Cotch's body and whether it will stand up to the punishment he inflicts on it every week.
Only saying this due to his age and his well documented issues over most pre-seasons.

The way he hurls himself into contests is brilliant but I fear sooner or later he is going to cop a big knock or tear something.

Despite this we wouldn't have him play any other way would we?

Good thread.... really highlights his value and status in the competition.

(Oh... & get right royally ****ed all of you opposition "Cotchin is over-rated and needs to prove himself" BF Posters... the kid is a gem!)

Whilst reading this thread I was thinkning the exact same thing.

I remember weeks ago arguing this with the Blues posters and theey wouldnt have a bar of it.

Other points argued were, Dusty's disposal, they said poor, I said elite and that it would show this year.

I also said Conca's influence on games(purely disposal wise) would match that of Cuz's and I think in the last few weeks since moved to the midfield he has.

Should have said Grigg purely for the lulz.:D:D

I have no doubt that this kid will become one of the most pivotal players in our club providing he remains healthy.

The difference between Cotchin and Martin's progress (head to head) is Martin's injury free induction into the big league.

At the minute, I am so glad that Carltank chose Kruezer ahead of Cotchin. In a nusthell, we have quietly won the battle with our precious Pick No 2!
