Plot:
Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges) is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

This is a most surprising movie I must say. I was kind of thinking that I wasn't going to like it and before I knew it the movie was ending. It is engrossing because the story is so well written and the characters are so well acted. The best role I have seen Jeff Bridges do for years and he was perfectly cast. Maggie Gyllenhaal who normally is not one of my most favorite actresses, was excellent as the vulnerable single mother; and Colin Farrell who can actually sing OK, makes an appearance as the successful C&W star Bad Blake mentored.

All in all we have seen the washed up C&W singer type movies before but this one has an edge of realism that draws you right into the movie.

Highly recommend it

Yeah managed to check this out last week. Due to the fact that The Big Lebowski is probably my favorite movie I will check out anything with Jeff Bridges.

Holy cow the man can act, which came as no surprise. He just makes it all seem effortless. Was perfect.

I thought the movie was great but it wasn't what I expected, which is neither here nor there. I just thought the movie lacked a tiny bit of real story development. I just couldn't really believe as to why she (Maggie Gyllenhaals character) would pursue an ongoing relationship with someone like Bad Blake, especially around her son. Also I just expected when he was going to hit rock bottom it would be a lot worse than *SPOILERS* losing her son for a bit in a shopping center. Which obviously isn't ideal behavior but still.

But in saying all that the movie was great. Brilliant acting from all round. I think you mean in your post that Colin Farrell was good? Not Colin Firth? Unless I am losing my mind. He was surprisingly good. I Thought he and Bridges complimented each other very well.

Jeff Bridges acting alone makes this a must see :thumbsu:

I had this feeling also, all seemed to happen too quickly as well.

Good movie though with a great turn from Jeff Bridges, hopefully he receives the Oscar that his body of work deserves.
