Due to the sometimes inconsistentsies of our midfielders this year and their total domination last year, how much can we credit the influence of Darren Cresswell on the success of last year compared to this year? Thoughts

It's no coincidence if you look at our lack of intensity at the man and the lack of commitment at the footy since his departure.

Maybe, but they shouldn't need him to tell them to put their body in and get the ball. The basics of the game - chasing, tackling, desperation at the footy, manning up on your opponent, should be done every week no matter what. Who their midfield Svengali is shouldn't make that much difference.

Absolutely.

I hope I'm wrong with the Cresswell thing but you have to wonder why they don't seem to have the same desire as they did last year.

The story I've heard and from a pretty good source is that Thompson felt threatened by Cresswell, especially by the work he did with the midfield and how well liked he was by the entire playing group. With Thompson such good buddies with Cook and Costa, Cresswell felt forced to leave and used the "family reasons" excuse to explain his sudden resignation.

Categorically incorrect.

Cresswell was close to moving to Brisbane when he retired from Sydney at the end of 2003.

I think at the time there was no coaching spot available up there. With O'Donnell going,a spot opened up.
