when l try to customise my own field the game turns off.
Does anyone else have this problem?

It is interesting to hear that, because on my Cricket 2002 game it does exactly the same thing. Looks as though they think it is a nice bug to keep in the game.

For interests sake, Cricket 2002 is a pile of ****e...what is 2004 like though, apart from the customised field stuff up?

I have had the game for about 3 weeks and have had no problems with customising the field.

Viper: It is as bad, if not worse than Cricket 2002, which is not as bad a AFL 2004. When are they going to release a decent game that can keep our attention more than 5 minutes?

Lets be honest, how can they release a realistic cricket game that is actually interesting. A day of Test cricket goes for 7 hours and out of the 600 balls that are bowled only about 200 of those are actually scored off. I don't really think cricket is the type of thing you can turn into a game. Football on the other hand, I think they could do a better job with.

I know that I have a heap of troubles with my Cricket 2002 game.

Namely:
* When running between wickets an image of the pitch flashes on an off quickly super-imposed over the image of the ball travelling to the outfield (or wherever it is going).

* I use the mouse to control the batsmen, and the bowlers, however not only can you hardly ever actually hit the ball well, but a lot of the time when you click the fire button, the batsman doesn't even swing the bat - resulting in LBWs and Bowled wickets. It is particularly frustrating.

* Running between wickets is horrendously slow unless you click the mouse button continually as fast as you can...resulting in stuffing your mouse.

* Did I mention the bloody annoying flashing pitch issue?

* Did I mention that the only way to get runs at a decent rate is to advance to the pitch of the ball and try to hit it straight down the ground for 6 or 4. Or to sweep any bowler? Otherwise the batsman just effectively miss-times every ball.

And of course there is the fielding issue with the game cutting out.

This poor batting aspect of the game is evident when the bowling is so bloody easy. Just use Adam Dale and bowl a massive out-swinger pitched at middle and leg on a good length and you will bowl the batsman every ball. That or use Ricky Ponting and bowl massive off-spinners pitched at about a 4th stump and you will bowl them all the time too.

Quite a poor game really. I must say that while Cricket 96 was the easiest game ever, at least it didn't stuff up.

l have also got cricket 2002 but never had a problem with customising my fields, i have only had this problem with cricket 2004.
To enjoy cricket on the playstation you have to be a real cricket buff. I love it, the Pura Cup comps and County cricket add a new dimension to the game. Cricket 04 is heaps better than the 02 version simply because each players ability is different. In 02 McGrath could score runs as easy as Tendulkar could, 04 those such problems are fixed.

game play is also realistic. eg, Rain.
When you play in England it rains during matches, sometimes losing a session or a days play.
A good challenge is being a 2nd division county team in season mode. Try and get promoted into Div 1.
Unlike 2002, you could be Kenya and score the same amount of runs as you would being Australia.

Still reckon the old Shane Warne Cricket '99 was a fair game

It was a great game.

Lengths better then this crap they serve up in the form of 'Cricket 2004'.

Cannot believe people hand over their hard earned for such unadulterated rubbish. The 'Cricket 2004' disc is the most expensive drink coaster since AFL 2004.

Anyway, shouldn't this be on the nerds board ;)

I played cricket 99 a while ago, and can't really remember what it was like, although I think I liked it.

But as I said...cricket 96 is the way to go if you can get hold of it...it doesn't have real player names..but you can score well in it (250 - 300+ in a 10 over match anyone?) It doesnt work on my current computer though :(

I was playing '99 on the weekend as a bit of a 'walk down memory lane'. Much better than the newer games.

Only problem is that in a ODI you are often better off using batsman/spinners (Bevan, M Waugh etc) than quicks/medium quicks like McGrath, Dale and Bichel.

The best cricket game ever is on the SNES.

I think it's called "Super International Cricket"... or something along those lines.

Hahaha **** YEAH!

I made 700 in one innings in that game.

My best shot was a leg glance going for a 6 every ball. For some reason I couldn't do it when using the West Indies, it always went down the ground for a 6 or a 4.

Then to get them all out, you put a spinner on. Throw them a full toss, hits their shoulder, appeal and the umpire gives it out on most occasions.

Nope, works fine for me.

The only problem I have with the game is it's easy to go at 10+ an over in test cricket.....

The wickets do fall at about the right times, and I guess a game of dot balls would be pretty boring..

I have to agree that apart from Cricket 96...SIC is the best cricket game....I have been hooked back onto it lately..however I always get out to the pull shot :(

i cannot believe you people like Cricket '96 & '99 over the new version.

Your just winding people up surely.

I've got both Cricket 2002 and Cricket 2004 and although the latest version has a bug when you save a game and go back to it later, (reverts back to the default line up) I haven't had any other problems with changing fields, running between the wickets or any graphics quality on the PS2.

i have had no other bug problems. Nor did l have any in the 2002 game.

Why are there some bugs in the same game that happen on some PS2's and not others?

And just last night l reloaded a saved game on the 04 version, and my team l had was still there, the bug didn't happen this time. But it has happened other times.

Shane Warne cricket 99 sh*ts on all cricket games. The gameplay is superb.

I know he was suspended but they could have included warney in the cricket 2004 game. Maybe do what other games do and swap a few letters in his name to keep it similar but different enough to stop any legal action.

Whane Sarne perhaps

does anyone know of a website where i can get cricket 2004 for the pc? most ones i look at say it doesn't come out until 3.3.04.

plus, the ea sports website for cricket, has you go to the page for 2002 where you click the link for 2004.

thanks
