Crowds?

Just saw the below under the SANFL regional threads, those crowd numbers certainly look impressive. The Port figure was boosted by the appearance of Tredrea.

What have the WAFL crowds been like to start the season? The Port game aside, are they coming anywhere enar these kinds of numbers? VFL crowds over here are around the 3 000 mark apparently after round 1 per game.

Having been to many VFA/VFL games over the years, you can never believe the VFL crowd figures in the newspapers because they are so far from the mark (a follow on from the VFA days in the 70s and 80s). I have been to very few VFL matches in recent years where the crowd has been 3000 or more, except Grand Finals - I can confidently say that Division 1 Eastern FL matches have exceeded VFL crowds a few times in the past couple of years for H&A and Finals matches.

The quoted crowds are usually around 2000 to 3000, with the two Saturday games last weekend listed in the 1500 region. Having been at East Freo Oval on Saturday, I can vouch that the figure for East Freo v Peel (1400 or 1500) was reasonably accurate.

In 3 East Perth games this year we have had crowd figures of approx 2K against West Perth, 2K against Swans and 3K against Claremont (our first home game).

The WAFL scheduling is absolutely mind boggling.

For example Freo play West Coke on Saturday, so the WAFL puts all 4 of it's fixtures on that day. It's idiotic. Why don't they just put a couple of games on Sunday? The crowds would almost doube if they did that.
