Everyone hated the sight of the players handballing backwards and handballing to players under pressure in the Saints game, one of the reasons being the lack of support around the packs and limited movement and options up forward.
Too many times in the saints game players would handball back to a player under pressure as there was limited run and support to provide the ball carrier with options. The players also lacked any confidence in kicking forward as there were too few players leading into space.
The Saints played a man on man style, which although tighted things up around the packs, it allowed for Adelaide players to lead into areas usually occupied by a zone.
A few times Danger forced through the pack and handballed to someone in space. I don't think I ever saw a player running forward off the pack to provide a short kick option or a player presenting forward of a pack to provide a target forward of the defense or centre.
We did lack options. Having Griffin in the side to support Maric would enable Tippett to stay forward. However I think that I prefer Moran to play as the second ruck as he can cause headaches, NOT in defence, but as a floating forward option. For all of Moran's lack of football knowledge, he does know how to find space and can be a good mark forward option.
The changes to last week would include Moran and Gill for Henschtel and Douglas (Dougie has been good but he needs to earn a spot back in the SANFL as he's just not providing anything that makes you think he needs to be there next week).
The forward line would then be Tippett and Walker in forward 50 permanent with Gill at CHF and Moran floating in there as well (swapping with Maric).
I don't think Stevens will be ready. Jacky would be handy as he seemed to have a good game on the weekend or Symes could be good down back allowing Petrenko to play a role up forward, and Shirley had a riper but I don't see Craig rushing him back. I honestly have trouble working out who to drop to enable these guys to come in.
