I'm going to vent about a couple of crows, who in my opinion are spuds...

Richard Douglas: I've always had a low opinion of this bloke, even when other people sung his praises. For what he is i.e. a small-forward/mid in what should be the prime of his career, he doesn't get anywhere near enough of the pill. When he finally does get it he doesn't hurt the oposition. Also, he's always had a very bad awareness of whats going on around him. He's been given so many chances and I can't see him getting any better. He must be delisted at the end of the year, or traded if any other club is stupid enough.

Brett Burton: As someone else pointed out in another thread, Burton is and always has been an very average player. So many people (the majority of which are opposition supporters) think this guy is a deadset gun, but the truth is that Burton is possibly the least damaging player at the club. His ability to get the ball is not the issue. In all honesty I would rate his ball skills about the level of a Div 4 amature player. Just look at his goal kicking this year, which has been absolutely demoralising. The fact that he can take a spectacular mark every now and then seems to mask the negatives in the eyes of some supporters. He should have been delisted at the end of last year.

Mike Cook: He's still young, but one thing you can't teach (or at least is a hard thing to learn) is awareness. This bloke simply doesn't know what the hell is going on around him. I think his foot speed probably allowed for this at lower levels, but at AFL level he gets caught time and time again. His disposal is pathetic too. I generally like to give young blokes a go, but I can't see too many positives from this guy. I mean I see tons of positives from a guy like Sloane, but to me Cook looks very spud like.

Jon "The Griftor" Griffin: Seriously, this bloke is not a footballers ar$ehole. He must have some compromising photographs of Niel Craig or something, because I have no idea how he has managed to remain on the crows list. He doesn't just go missing for 5 minute spells, he goes missing for 3 quarters at a time. I really hope he never plays AFL again.

Michael Doughty: I don't want to bag this guy too much because I think he's been a quite good player over the years for a guy with limited talent. Sadly, the game has past him by and he's no good anymore. Probably should have been given his marching orders at the end of last year, but I can forgive the hierarchy for giving him one more (unlike bloody Burton - what the hell were we thinking).

Can't argue with anything there. I hope you are wrong about Doughty and he comes good again like he did last year.

Griffin's best games for the Crows were in his first year when he should have got a rising star nomination.

Burton is offering something, but every time he gets the ball I view it as a win when he doesn't completely **** it up. He was most damaging as a forward running wingman.

Cook showed some really good insticts around the packs when he got the ball on the weekend. I think he gets caught out when he looks upfield and nothing's there!

Cook is a prodigy, gets enough of it, shows desire to run, but he's ineffective by hand and foot. Must improve the effectiveness of his disposal and make it damaging.

Dougie has improved, he still shows flashed of crap, but he's come on and at least putting in.

Yeah I agree on Dougy, the I see it is:

Instead of being mostly crap but occasionally doing good things (This is what X-factor is). He is mostly good, but occasionally doing really crap things.

All in all, he has no finish to his game. He almost tackles, almost takes marks, almost runs the lines, almost kicks goals, but in the end he doesn't.

Completely agree with the Douglas opinion, if a player hasn't got the awareness at this stage in their career they'll never have it. Gets caught out too often, runs into trouble and then gives hospital handballs, doesn't rack up enough disposals to be a workhorse type player either.

Completely disagree with cook though. I wasn't sold on him at first but he's showing continual improvement each week and is starting to show some good signs. He just needs more game time which is what he'll get this year given the injury to symes.

Burton - agreed
griffin - certain spud
doughty - usually plays well when the team is playing well so his form slump is not suprising, may still come good though

Cook is rated pretty highly within AFL circles, Collingwood in particular was ecstatic in its pants at the prospect of landing him for peanuts in the 07 draft before we pulled the curve ball and snapped him up. They remain filthy on us for that, because prior to being so certain that he would slide they had intended to use an earlier pick on him. Time will tell how big a mistake they made.

Every time I have a crack at a player, the next week they play like a star ...then I look far from the genius I know I am ! :o;)

So...they're all spuds.:thumbsu:
