Just going through an old file and came across a list of questions put out by folks back in my hometown, trivia style.

I was able to answer some and am about to give it another go.

See how you go with these. I'll give the first ten, and, if people find it fun, will give more later.

"Listed are 80 Victorian towns, cities, suburbs or districts. All places can be found in the postcode booklet, phone book or BP Road Atlas (ed note - dunno how old this was)

Example : What Length (7) - Howlong.

-----------------------------------------

1. Grandma's Corner (7) - _____________
2. Man's Paddock (9) - _____________
3. Purchase Poultry (6) - ____________
4. Jumper's Bridge (7-8) - _______________
5. Playing For Time (7) - _____________
6. Windy Cove (6-5) - _____________
7. In My Mouth (6) - _____________
8. Two Male Names (7) - _____________
9. Looter's Disguise (9) - ____________
10. Keep An Eye Out (7) - ____________

Playing for time - Stawell

In my mouth - Echuca? (hardly confident at all with this answer but I couldn't think of anything else.)

Stawell could be right, not so sure about Echuca. Chewton could aalso apply. Yarck could be nearly as likely :)

Hmm "In my mouth" ... any town names with 'gob' in them?

I thought of Chewton and Bittern but both have 7 letters. You wonder where they get the names of some places. eg Blowhard. Wonder what sort of people live there. Watchers of fine adult entertainment perhaps.

Probable answers.

I'll post another ten soon ... there were 80 in the whole list.

Yeah they were all Vic towns as it a church in my local town of spawning where it was put together ... they probably just got out the local map (BP road atlas apparently) ...

Feel free to conjure one up for another state! I must say you did pretty well to find Macorna, not being a Victorian!

I once worked as a mail sorter in Adelaide sorting the interstate mail.. place names tend to stick.
