Well done boys & girls, a great response for the post - good votes against all scenario's however the top one is the best.

The Cab Sav that was on offer has gone to voter number 8, so if you send me a PM I'll mail the Henske 04 bottle out to you.

Mrs Voss, again sorry for the indiscretion on this post ( however have you seen the abuse the young fella's copping from other guy's on his latest thread??). Anyway, well done to your son in stitching up a fantastic educational deal for you grandchildren at OH.

Keep punching Jas man

Hey Nufty,
Where do you get your info from because you are full of it. As a longtime supporter of OH with kids at the school (paying fees) and one who was involved in getting Voss to the club, i take offence that you can post crap about scholarships for his kids. I would like to know where this came from. Name your source....

His kids aren't attending Haileybury?

this whole post was about finding out where he "got his source" from.

If it weren't true and you new it not to be true, all you would need to say is, "I was involved and can tell you 100% there was no scholarship", but no, you want to find a "source" meaning you believe there IS a "source" and because of that, one can draw the conclusion that for there to be a "source" there has to be underhand dealings and thus meaning he infact is receiving a scholarship for his kids..

well done.

After reading that paragraph for the 3rd time , I think I finally worked out what you meant!! ;)

I heard from another Club who was also trying to sign Voss, schooling for the kids was a requirement.

So what? It's better than a bloke getting a job as a teacher at the school to play footy with their old boys. At least the standard of education at the school isn't compromised.

I know the VAFA is about playing for the love of the game/school but if we can attract a quality player like Voss and his children benefit then it's no skin off my nose.

No one is getting upset about it TBP... just throwing in a few tongue in cheek comments in regards to it.. Personally, how people end up at a club (as long as its not direct payments) doesn't really bother me..

But this smokey bloke is the one kicking up all the dust for us even suggesting it... guilty concience?

I didn't have a problem either TBP, just stating facts!

Yeah I know. It obviously didn't come across this way but I was more having a go at schools that give teaching jobs in order to recruit big name players.

So whats acceptable and what crosses the line?

Thoughts on the following list

a) scholarships or reduced school fees for kids.
b) having ones credit card paid off.
c) having a decking put up in your back yard free of charge.
d) gym membership from sponsor
e) job given by sponsor (at market or non market rates)

Fact is both Brown and Voss are playing at OH because they followed their mates (Shanahan and Loewe)....so if you want to make up crap about scholarships and extra payments good luck to ya. Both are about 30 and have made enough money out of footy and are happy playing amateur footy playing under a mate. Perhaps you're just a little jealous that we'll have the best two players in the ammos, not just B Grade. Keep making up the crap because there's still more big name players to come. Watch this space!

Haileybury has given away a lot of scholarships in the last 5 years, hence why they are now a powerhouse in the APS football.. It would be no skin off the schools nose to offer a couple more..

But, having said that.. you'll need all the help you can get to stop the slide to C grade.. So the only person to "watch this space" will be yourself I think..

Two things about this thread seem odd:

1. that it has grown from a stupid poll about getting rid of one poster into a discussion of the machinations at OH, and

2. that it appears OH supporters are advocating the recruitment of ex-St Kilda lads to their club.

The first one is a god-send, because Cardio Carl's poll was rather nasty anyhow. However the second aspect concerns me.

Why does OH have to get non-OH people across to the club? Is this likely to encourage or discourage Haileybury year 12's to ply their trade at the Badlands?

If one considers those clubs which have successfully fostered the school/OB link (using Scotch and Xavs as the prime examples), in most cases, particularly Scotch, their senior side has 60-70% old boys as a minimum. I coudl be wrong, by I believe the OH mix seems to be far more skewed away from school lads graduating (at least their 2006 premiership side was).

Is there a particular reason, or reasons for this?
If Haileybury's school footy program (including scholarships) aims to get the best footballers in the region to attend the school - why aren't they and their mates graduating to the old boy club? More pointedly, why would the old boy club target non-Haileybury people in its recruiting drives?

Seems to me they're operating at cross purposes.

I was discussing this exact same point yesterday, about Hoppers Crossing in the WRFL. They make such a big noise about supporting junior development then buy in players from outside in order to get a seniors flag. Ooops, sorry guys who are now too old to play U18s, no spots on the team left. Which is kind of nice for the local VAFA U19s in a perverse way. Unfortunately many of them don't know about, or don't follow up, that avenue and either become lost to footy or drift off to other WRFL clubs.

Loosen up Scribe

how is this thread trying to 'get rid' of a poster?

Cardio has put some humourous postings to keep the Ammo board at an even keel with the crap some people put on.

How many times have other posters joked when asking Jascave to put another poll up.

You can tell by the wording of the poll it was in jest - get a life!

Ditto NOTR - I usually find Cardio's contributions amusing, but not this one. However, perhaps saying it was trying to 'get rid' was overstating things a bit.

However, the fact only 18 people bothered voting in 3 weeks, and all subsequent discussion has focused on Old Haileybury would suggest most other posters would agree.

Scribe, life tough on the home front up there old boy?.

When has 13+7+6+7= 18 response - lets not get the facts in the way of crap.

Also if your mathematically minded the Votes to View on this thread = 5.1% whilst same on the Vote to determine if ammos should stay at EP was 1.5%. Yeah, little interest, however more people saw the fun in this post - we are not all stale serious posters like you.

Go out and have some fun, your sounding boring at the minute.

The 2006 Premiership side had 15 Old Boys and 7 of their mates.

The 2007 side lost 4 or 5 Old Boys, Corrigan, McIntyre, Jenke and Lay (Chisolm injured for most of the year). The others to leave were Steinfort and Trollope retired, Hopwood injured and Ford retired halfway through the season .

Our goal is to return to A Section asap and If we can get 4-6 quality players for 2008 then we should be very competitive in B Section. All clubs should look to recruit 4-6 good players (whether old boys or not) each year if they are to be successful.

In amateur football players play for various reasons and unless you are extremely well connected or you are the player concerned, you will never know the truth. Most of this talk is just speculation, a good read mind you and quite entertaining but still just speculation.

Cardio - nice try.

Normally I'm a fan, but this was a multiple vote poll - you set it up that way. See above below those pretty coloured bar charts.
"Multiple Choice Poll. Voters: 18. This poll is closed"

So 18 voters cast 33 votes (i.e. you could choose more than one option in your voting).

'Nuff said. :thumbsu:
