Looked like he could have been anything early in 2000 when he got a few goals, could be a great pickup:)

Hopefully he's seen the last of the injuries that ended his 2001 season:)

Hasn't played since Round 7, 2001, must have had huge injury troubles.

He is from Melbourne originally isn't he, maybe that's why they want to get rid of him, he is probably home sick..

As a Hawks supporter, I would've given pick 24 for Cupido, but now we have lost that, so how bout pick 40 and Tim Clarke? ;)

In 2 years he has done his knee once & his shoulder 2 or 3 times & is currently in rehab that is a lot of injuries for a young player I think that is why Brissie are happy to trade him & the reason I prefer Heff to stay rather than pick up an injury prone player he might be a great player but it means zilch if he is on the sidelines injured all the time.

Depends what Brisbane want for him. He's had injury problems, but I'd be interested.

Personally, I have always like him.

He is dynamic, and backs himself.

I think you have done very well for yourselves.

I wish Cupido the best of luck in his career.

yeah good work essendon, i love cupido he's actualy a close freind, he has been telling me about his talks with sheedy for months

and the question about why brisbane let him go so easily, he's home sick he hates it up in brisbane, doesnt hate the team just living up their. Good luck damian at essendon, he will be a future star for sure

"I had barracked for Essendon all my life so I wasn't that unhappy about it. When I heard the deal had been done… well, I'm just absolutely stoked."

Dodgy shoulders or not, this is the type of kid I want at my club, you know he is going to give 110%

* Shoulders fine says Cupido and Essendon doctors agree, hasn't had a shoulder problem for a year but just couldn't break into the Brissy side

apart from when he dislocated his sholder half way through this season !!!

Damian Cupido is one of the most exciting young players going around and next year he will call Essendon Football Club home. And you won't find anyone happier about it than the man himself. "I had a year to run on my contract so I obviously thought I was going to be in Brisbane but then I heard I was up for trade," Cupido said. "I had barracked for Essendon all my life so I wasn't that unhappy about it. When I head the deal had been done… well, I'm just absolutely stoked."

Cupido headed to Brisbane after the Lions took him with their sixth selection in the 1999 National Draft. He made his AFL debut in 2000 and played six games that year and after seven games in 2001 he looked to be a star in the making. However a severe shoulder injury sidelined him for eight weeks - he managed to recover in time to play in Brisbane's AFL Queensland premiership side. Another shoulder operation at the beginning of 2002 saw him miss a chunk of last season and he was unable to break into the Brisbane side late in the season.

"The shoulder feels really good now. I have already had Ian Reynolds (Essendon club doctor) look at it and he was really happy with it. I'll head back to Brisbane this week to get my stuff and then it is all systems go for pre-season. I can't wait to get stuck into it," Cupido said.

Cupido was born in Capetown and he is the first South African to be drafted by an AFL club. He shifted to Australia with his family when he was five. He played his junior football with Croydon and the Eastern Ranges. He played with the Victorian under 16 side in 1997 / 98, making the All Australian under 16 side in 1997. He toured Ireland with the AFL / AIS squad the following year. Cupido was Victoria's number one goalkicker at the 1999 All Australian carnival and was runner-up in the TAC Cup goalkicking in 1999. He finished 10th in the Morrish Medal that year. Cupido is an explosive type, a burst player who is a prodigious left-foot kick.

Doesn't matter really, he says in his own words "it's all systems go for pre-season" which is all that matters

Cupido is a young player with an enormous amout of talent. unfortunately he has spent most of the past two seasons injured so he has not been able to show his true ability at Brisbane. He is a player with great speed and good hands, he can also kick a ball well.

Brisbane have traded him due to their midfield strength. I think he is definitely worth the punt and if he can get over his injury jinx is a definite 100 gamer at Essendon.

You might think it doesnt matter but considering he had the operation less than 4 months ago worries me deeply as to if he will come up next year.

Looking at a sports medicine website :D

Full recovery from a total shoulder reconstruction is 10-12 weeks before return to action in 'contact sports'

I`m more worried about what he`s going to do to opposistion sides, leave them in his wake for starters....first game up there should be interesting.

What a heist!

I doubt even most Lions supporters would be aware of just what Cupido is capable of. Do y'selves a favour and get down to training and watch him potting drop punts through goal post height from 60 metres off one step. Poetry in motion.

If he can overcome his shoulder probs, and his tendency to be a little too much of an individual (you can't fool him) on the field; you have yourselves a champion.

You Bomber people should almost consider this revenge for the 2001 Grand Final. ;)
