So looks like we need a new midfield coach - van Berlo's going back to Adelaide at the end of the season. To be honest I have no idea who's even available at the moment especially with COVID cuts. Any standout candidates?

Everything's coming up Rosa!

We struggle to attract interstate candidates, got no hope in hell while the boarder is shut.

Jade Rawlings now available, was thinking we'll just make do with what we've got with the football department spending cuts

Yeah, saw that - suggests North are in a very precarious financial state to axe three-quarters of their coaching staff, with most of those only commencing in roles this year.

Must be awkward when you are sacked by your brother less than one year into a three year contract.

Get J.Rawlings back for the trade/draft negotiations at least.

Its been stated to death, but any midfield coach needs some real mongrel about them to offset Simpson.

I am very much of the belief that, given who is available, Pyke would be a decent choice

The Rosa appointment as midfield coach reeks of jobs-for-the-boys rather than canvassing for the best available candidate, especially considering the development of Gold Coast's midfield made no progress at all during his tenure there as a veteran player and mentor. (Indeed it could be argued their midfield has improved in its application since his departure).

Whether or not this appointment is a contributor to the current malaise and lack of cohesion displayed by the midfield this season remains to be seen. There is at the moment however, a worrying correlation.

I certainly would have preferred to have seen someone without any prior affiliation to the club appointed to this position of key importance.
I believe that Rosa always was considered to have a great football brain. I think that there was always a plan to bring back into the fold after his playing days were over. I think that people are being a bit harsh on a young coach who in no way holds the reigns or is in any senior capacity. I personally believe that he will work his way up to a senior coaching position in time.

I always thought we are timid when it comes to hiring support for Simpson.
We have such deep pockets but all our assistants seem to be unproven or industry nobodies. Anyone who is any good gets poached pretty damn quick (Burns, Mitchell, Rawlings).

While I appreciate they all returned to their home states, money talks. Especially being in our premiership window, a couple big contracts to Mitchell and Rawlings would have kept them in WA for a couple more years you'd have thunk?
It's not really the way it works. It's a merry go round, with all young coaches trying to get as much experiece under different senior coaches. You don't stay at any club too long where they have an established senior coach.

I suspect we are going to reshuffle the deck chairs with the main coaching appointments and maybe bring in some junior development coaches to round it out. Footy cap has been cut by 1/3 so we will need less coaches overall

A merry go round that rarely, if ever, results in us poaching highly rated assistants.

Before the bullshit soft cap, we used to have some of the best assistants as we could pay more than most other clubs. I think we should seriously consider breaching it and just pay the 50%loading

Get Suma or Pyke back for mid coach, and Hickmont back coaching the AFL team. Strong assistant coaches are critical, our current assistants are weak at best.
