Customize HTML in IE

Is there anyway you can change the browser's (IE6) default behaviour when reading HTML. Such as when the code matches <this> replace it with <other>.

If IE6 can't do this, any other methods? windows hook? different browser?

While not being too sure about what actually you want to do, the only thing I can think of is to use XHTML with your own customised DTD.
