Assistant coach Steve Malaxos has today tendered his resignation from the Sydney Swans as he looks to further advance his coaching career.

"I've had a great five years at the Swans but now I feel it's time to move on," he said.

"This has been an extremely gratifying year and I believe the Club is well positioned for the future but from a personal point of view I need to look forward as I seek to advance my career.

"While I don't have anything concrete at the moment there are some great opportunities out there and now seems an ideal time to make the move."

Senior coach Paul Roos said; "For the past five years Steve has had an enormous input into the development of our list and I have no doubts we would not have made the Preliminary Final this year without him.

"Certainly his work on developing our midfield brigade has been tremendously significant, the likes of Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton, Nic Fosdike and Brett Kirk having benefited greatly from Steve's expertise.

"Steve's leaving will be a huge loss to the Club and whilst we would have loved him to stay I totally understand his motivations and wish him all the best in the future.

He did a damn good job for the swannies over the last 5 years, much that went unnoticed. He was a gun of a player and is certain to have success as a senior coach some time soon.
