Anyone else used to listen to the Hill a lot back in their HS days? Ultimate bong smoking music, but being I dont' smoke the bongs anymore (just spliffs) don't listen to em as much thesedays, but they sure knew how to make some laid back West Coast gangsta music.

woot 'Checkmate' is on. One of my fave tracks ever

First album is a classic.

But they lost the plot completely after 'Black Sunday.'

Here is something you can't understand...
How I could just kill a man!

I reckon thier sample of Dusty Springfields " Preacher Man " was the best ever ... never get sick of that song

.....theres an idea for a thread

It is a good idea for a thread - sampling is getting so clever and intricate nowadays, much more than the typical P. Diddy "loop the hook" style. The new Kanye West is a treasure trove of this kind of imaginative work, esp. "Gold Digger" - twice removed sample, smart stuff.

RE: Cypress Hill - Black Sunday is one those albums that make up the soundtrack of my high school life. With Nevermind, 1977...oh what else??

I was a huge fan of Cypress Hill back in the day. I've been looking for the remix of "Throw your set in the air" for years. It's got a real west coast vibe to it. That G-Funk sound. If anybody has it, feel free to link it please! :D

The most complex, brilliant use of the sample is The Bmob Squad/PE's late-80s material.

There are so many samples in every song its not funny.

And they've been turned upside down, inside out so nobody even knows that they're a sample.

Light years ahead of its time.
