D-Link USB DSL-200 Modem to a PS3

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help me?

Does anyone know the above modem, its a USB ADSL modem, its a pretty old one but I was wondering if it can be connected to a ps3 to play games online.

I do have a ADSL wireless router (also a DLINK-G604T) but my ps3 always cuts out when playing games online and I heard connecting using ethernet is the go.

Anyways my problem is the above modem, is a USB modem and only has inputs for a USB and phone line. I was wondering if anyone had ever connected their PS3 to the above modem and actually got it working.

lol. Worst modem ever. These are setup using a PPP connection, like a dialup connection. So impossible.

If you were going to use this method, why don't you use the DLINK-G604T through Ethernet? DLINKS aren't great, so that may be a reason it is cutting out. Could be anything though with wireless. Modem could be fine. Try updating the firmware if you haven't already and you could also tinker with a few of the settings. I would suggest googling to see if anyone else is having similar issues. Worse comes to worse, just by a cheap modem online or use the G604T to do the authentication and a cheap wireless router. Or a wireless modem/router that's highly rated.

Thanks mate, I thought the DSL-200 Modem was shit...... i have a iMac and I dont even think it works on it.

The problem is the computer is in one room and the ps3 is 20 metres away so I cant connect it by ethernet cable.

This is sooo frustrating.... I will just have to get another modem I think.

CAt5 cable works up to 150 metres before signal degradation.

Try changing the channel of the wireless on the dlink, could be some something messing with the signal.

How's the wireless signal to a PC? If its stable on a PC but not on the ps3 then your only option with that router is to use an ethernet cable.

I use a billion 5200G and it works fine on the ps3 for gaming on the wireless but streaming it cuts out, the older PS3's only use G standard but I think the slim line ps3's use N standard, so if you have a slim ps3 make sure you get a router that is N standard.
