I'd take a stab in the dark and say that it was probably something to do with Christmas and charity.
Maybe he heard them cheering for Collingwood,so he thought,"Hey,I'm a Collingwood player,I might as well go over and sit with them".
The only problem though,was that they were cheering for Paul Collingwood.

well, did you read the words accompanying the picture?
Dale Thomas was in the Herald Sun a couple of days back , and he was pictured with Jodie Henry and some other bloke , and he was supporting the wearing of green and gold to the G for the cricket. Quite the opposite of appearing with the Barmy Army .
