I have suspected that the Hawks may chase Dale Thomas should Buddy depart the club at the end of the year.
Damien Barrett on TFS just confirmed that we are one of the clubs he is considering dependant on the Buddy situation.

Could be a very good outcome for the Hawks.
Now if only there was a way to keep Buddy and land Thomas. I hope you are reading this Brad Sewell :-)

If Buddy left, we'd be mad not to look at him as he's a gun. Would have to ensure that ankle is fine, but yeah, he'd be great to get into the club. That being said, if the big No.23 stays, we'll have no where near the coin to sign him.

Would be a good pick up for you guys but he would only leave for alot of cash and the way his ankle is you would have to be very careful forking out the cash. Some of the docs are sayin he may need a full ankle reco and may never be the same but then again he might be fine.

I presume we would lose any Buddy compensation should we sign Thomas.

Are we the new Collingwood?
Any player weighing up their options, and Hawks are mentioned
Thomas, Adams, Mumford, Longer, Cooney earlier, am I missing anyone?

Buddy to stay, and Hawks to sign Adams and I'll be VERY happy!

This is if Buddy goes.
I think he is the right type we need however I am not sold on him personally. Big money for someone who has barely played in 2 years. Wouldn't offer a cent more than 500k a year

Basing it on injury and recent output history ..no.. But if that is the measure, we should be spilling Ellis, bailey, and even Woodward to a point ...
I would take Thomas with ankle risk .... over retaining Ellis with full body risk ..

I wonder how desperate Collingwood would be to keep him? Let him walk and they would get pick 13?, making it 5 top 20 picks in 2 years which is remarkable considering where they've been on the ladder. Melbourne will have 2 in that same period.

Given the quality of Collingwood's recruiting and development, that's a little scary when added to their current list and could set them up for the next decade.

I like the idea of starting a rebuild while we are on top of the ladder. Lets go quality youth (even from other clubs). If Buddy stays we are probably a chance for one more tilt in 2014. After that GCS & Richmond (maybe GWS & Roos) will have their time.

For the right price would be a good pick up, medical pending. But if he's leaving collingwood surely he'd be going to the blues to reunite with his estranged father

Collingwood to receive more for that fairy than we would for Buddy...great compo system you have their Vlad

On a serious note about the compo system, with the reported offer to Buddy being topped up by a good $4+ million by the AFL with ambassador payments, then they wont factor into us getting compo.

If we do pull in a free agent, I fully expect Hawks to get no compensation despite the deal being the biggest contract in AFL history.

Would hope leaving to us is simply being used by his agent as a negotiating tactic now that the injury has taken away a lot of Thomas' leverage.
