With all due respect, while he did have a great debut (and well done to him) did he actually have an opponent, and if so, who was it? If you're going to make your debut this year, I think the weagles might be the team to do it against.

If he was available in the 4th round we would of taken him ahead of Mark Johnson. But i think he was already taken. Don't forget we got Mayne with our 3rd rounder.

I think he was on Scott Selwood for a while.

Dalziell did not fit the Freo demographic in that he has clean hands and is a good kick, preferred to pick another runner in Hinkley who will be another Peake :(
Just another example of where our recruiters overlook local talent for kids we know very little about. I hope it doesn't happen again this year, but I'm sure it will. For those that say pick best available well that's fine with your first pick but after that look local first. End of Rant I am off to the game.

Overlook local talent? Kinda like Palmer, Mayne, Pratt, Head, Mourish and Collard are all from interstate.

You do realise that Dalziell is a mature age pick without a lot of scope for improvement. Hinkley is lightning fast, something we lack, and is an onballer with height, something we also lack.

If we took Dalziell in the 2nd round we'd have lost the plot.

i didn't expect warfare when starting this thread.

Was trying to stay away from that for a while after just returned for a week on the sidelines; banned on Geelong board for certains comments on Bartel and Ablett:thumbsd:

He is 21, just a year older than Ibbotson. Following your logic, Ibbotson has only limited improvement left in him.

How would you know how much improvement is left in Dalziell? Under the guidance of Matthew's and the support of Brown and Power, the kid may turn into an elite midfielder. Who are we to say how much improvement he has left in him?

The difference is Ibbotson was picked in the draft at 17, Dalziell was not.

What does that have to do with it? Plenty of players who go late in the draft turn out to be guns. Just because they're not picked in the top 10 or 20 means nothing.

Dalziell, would have been drafted with our 55 pick but the Lions beats with pick 52. Im really happy with Palmer 7 , Hinkley 24 and Mayne 40. Anyway, another East Freo product.

I am entitled to an opinion on this topic without idiots like you resorting to making comments such as this. I noticed you had nothing else to add to the subject matter which shows how imature you are, off to bed now back to school tommorrow.

Yes I do realise he was a mature age pick, so was Harry Taylor and Geelong spent an early draft pick on him I don't think people thought that was a bad choice for them. I know it is early days yet for Dalziell & Hinkley but if I had my choice it would have been Dalziell.

Give Hinkley until he's 21. Then make your decision.

One thing which is interesting from those threads on the Brisbane board is he won Fremantle's 3km time trials, then did the same at North and Brisbane. Beat Simon Black's long standing beep test record at Brisbane. Obviously he has elite endurance and is a tremendous gut-runner, something our team really needs.

He was a bit in the wilderness, almost quit last year, has only really concentrated on footy recently ... so those that think he has no upside are a bit misguided. But really there was not much we could do as we probably would have taken him if Brisbane didn't beat us to it. A bit of a stretch to think we should have taken him with one of our first 3 picks.

There were people at the club with East Fremantle connections who knew how good this kid is.They even asked him to train with them prior to the draft, it is another Simon Black example of where we will leave him until later in the draft because no one knows about him.Well it didn't work then and it won't work now.

Doesn't Brisbane have a recruiting guy who sort of comes from East Freo? Richard Hadley's dad or something like that? Chances were we knew Brisbane would know about Dalziell. Good luck to him, hope he makes it.
