Went to the footy show taping tonight (dad got some tickets through a client) and after the show had finished I saw Damien barrett standing off to the side so I approached him an he was surprisingly friendly (shook my hand and asked my name). I asked him whether he knew anything of Deledio and gws, he responded surprised saying he hadn't heard anything and I mentioned how there was a report earlier in the year that his management had been approached and then he started asking who his management were etc and actually had a meaningful discussion without blowing me off.

Point is he responded saying he'd look into it and was very intrigued an commented "but gee don't u reckon he'd be a great fit at gws" then looked at me (had my guernsy on) and he laughed and said "obviously u don't think that", I responded saying he bleeds yellow and black and re signed with us during our darkest times then barrett simply chuckled and rubbed his fingers and said money talks. Anyone else concerned?

Also at the end of the show Garry and Newman go off record and answer questions and I was quite suprised how honest they are (obviously since they don't need to be politically correct off camera with the 'typical' answers forty personalities always give on camera)

Garry answered some questions and had some interesting answers;
- Firstly and I quote "GWS are into Scott pendlebury from collingwood, Todd goldstein from north (Brayshaw had already pissed off), and Travis boak from
port in extremely heavy ways"

-no one on footy classified really gets along and no one really likes caro, as soon as Garry said this sam started ripping into her saying stuff like "why not she's a good bloke?" lol

-the most interesting response was the one to my question. I asked Garry what he thought of the game between us and Melbourne a couple of seasons ago and whether it was deliberate tanking and whether karma had now bitten Melbourne on the ass with them likely to lose scully. Garry responded saying basically they went out with an intention not to win and were focussed on what was going to be better for the future and the sam chuckled about the karma comment.

-Garry also conceded Melbourne were basically being wound around scullys finger and are being accommodating giving him as much time as he needs to make a decision. Also he isn't confident scaly will stay and seems to have accepted the fact he is gone. Said an announcement should be made early next week hopefully.

Despite how much Garry goes on about on air how he can't comment on Melbourne affairs, off air he gave a fair bit away regarding scully and the future coaching job.

I know alot of posters on here don't like the footy show, but this stuff IMO was pretty raw and upfront, especially what barett said to me re lids and I felt uneasy about the dirty smile he got when I told him about the Deledio story :/

What do you guys think???

Sounds like Parrot had no clue about anything and was absolutely hopeless (In fact as a journo he was asking YOU for information, lmfao...you do this as a job Damo??)

The Gary Lyon stuff is very very interesting though. The Caro stuff is awesome too, I've always liked Sam, he's pretty light hearted.

Only thing I'm worries about is lids was never mentioned in mainstream media as a gws target next year, I'm slightly worried that parrot will bring it all to light.

I'm worried that with constant media scrutiny on lids leaiving may end up causing him to go (due to constant talk of young talent, premierships, dollars) whereas if it flew under the radar we'd be ok.

I said to parrot that lids will be 25 next year and won't be at his peak when gws are ready to challenge ie in 5-6 years he will be over 30 which means he probably won't make a premiership their, parrot only seemed interested in the money :/

can't wait for him to break the Deledio news next week :D

Wouldn't be surprised if he banks this story and saves it for early next year when 2012 gws targets are all the talk ... he always seems to be scraping the barrel for stories ... he'll need this one to get him through 2012 LOL

Yeah and then this board can turn on you for highlighting it to him.

easy, you fell for the "nice guy" reporters face. how old are you 16?

Yeh but he never had an idea I was going to give him a story like this. For the first part he thought I was just going to ask him a question and was very friendly from the beginning.

Just so happened he hadn't heard about Deledio being contacted by gws.

Was hoping to get a response like 'yeh I heard those rumours earlier but nothing will come from it'

How is it even a story?

You told him a baseless rumour and he correctly indicated anything can happen with the $$$ involved but he knew nothing. Means Sweet FA.

Interesting on the Gaddy Lyon comments though.

From the fan footy forum night last week Craig Camerons response when asked about Lids and GWS next year were... "Haven't heard anything", "I'm sure he's on their radar", "we'd be pretty confident... he's on bloody good dollars here".

If we're on the verge next year, and if the dollars weren't a ma$$ive jump (ie: double), I'd be sure that he'd stay.

Isn't a baseless rumor, article in the herald sun earlier in the year confirmed a quote from lids manager saying he had received an inquiry from gws. It's a few pages back on the gws board if you're intrested ...

GWS would be negligent not to inquire about Lids but it doesnt mean anything either way and wont mean anything until after the AFL season next year or when Lids signs a new contract before then.

Also that story is a classic manager's card these days of ensuring his clients gets top dollar regardless of whether they've spoken or not.

That still means nothing when Lids has 2 years left on a contract that was only renewed the year before. Of course GWS are going to approach a kid who is still only 23-24 and is a regular in the AA squad for the past few years. Doesn't mean he's agreed to go, just that GWS asked if he was interested. I imagine there have been around 100+ of these discussions.

If Lids is putting contract talks on hold until the end of next season then I'd be starting to worry, however he would be one of the highest paid players at Richmond currently so the difference in salary wouldn't be that massive and why would he go to a club that will be rebuilding for the next 4-5 years after he's gone through that his whole career? It doesn't make sense.

This whole Deledio to GWS rumour is fueled by nothing more than supporter paranoia.

The GWS coin should be of no concern to us regarding Deledio, he would be our top earner ATM and would be one of the highest paid in the league just about simply because we need to pay the minimum. Assuming he re-signs for a further 3 years when that expires he would be on the veterans list so we can pay him plenty, in the long run hecwould be better off financially to remain with us, as well as personally for him to be here for some success after all the lean times.

Absolutely agree with this.
The fact that Barret knew nothing about it (the guy is a knob, but give him some credit, he would have his ear to the ground) means the rumour is exactly that, a rumour fuelled by people who nothing about the situation.

Lol I agree.

Every player is going to be linked to GWS at some stage. HOW CAN YOU BE WORRIED IF HE HADN"T EVEN HEARD ANYTHING??

Of course he is going to say money talks....lol...if I said it to you would you be equally concerned. You would have had the right to be concerned if he had of said something along the lines of "i hear they are right into him in a big way".

Fortunately for us they are going hard after Pendles/Goddard by the sounds of it and Lids will be left alone. Doubt he would go to a start up team anyway when we are just about to come good.

Im a bit of a worrier myself but the fact is they have already thrown massive money at Ward, will possibly be throwing even bigger money at Scully and he looks likely to be going there, and also want any of Boak, Pendlebury and Goldstein, and theyve got the entirety of whoever else they sign to pay as well, not to mention the other 35 players or so. They wont be able to afford Lids.

I think we are making a mountain out of ant hill here guys - there was a rumour a few months back and that seems to be the only link (that we know about) at the moment.

Of course GWS would be doing due diligence checking up on all the talented young players - especially those in the 20-25 bracket, makes sense to leave no stone unturned.

As mentioned, Lids has already been through years of rebuilds and would be right up there for making the big bucks down at Punt road. He said the week leading up to the North game that he wants to play in finals - well if everything goes right, draft/trade well - we should have a chance at making the 8 next year.

I can't see him leaving to be honest, I think if anything, GWS need to snare a big big fish (i.e. a top 5 player such as Pendlebury). Hopefully then, they will leave our young guns alone :D

Lids is on 600k+ for the past 2 years. with all the players gws have signed on inflated contracts, the players they still want to sign and all the young players they have to account for there is no way they can afford to offer lids what it would need to move him.

Dont forget the gws are not funded by some sheik with billions of dollars they have a concession of 1-1.5 mill i think for a few years.

No need to panic or feel worried about this, we have more important things to worry about and that is finally building to have some sustained success and hopefully a premiership or 2................. or 3,4. lol i can dream cant i.
