Saw him tonite on white line fever.
I have come to the conclusion he was too nice a guy to be a coach. Freo is still his team & is very excited with the likes of the kids who were on his rookie list & picks of his in the draft.

Yep, saw the interview too.

I've always thought he was a top bloke and have always been a fan of his, and nothing has changed my opinion, even during 2001. He is the one that brought not only Hasleby, Pavlich and the Longmuirs, but lesser likes like Woods, Hayden, Haddrill, Grover, Carr, etc. He started the rebuilding process, and Connolly is now only continuing the development. But it's fair to say Drum has had a huge impact on where we are now.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty good interview.

I've always admired Drum for keeping the draft picks (during the end of his reign as coach) at the expense of trading them for proven players that would only marginally improve the side (although not making us genuine premiership contenders) and ensure we would be good enough for him to keep his job.

He chose the long term option and now we are starting to reap the rewards and will most likely be a genuine premiership threat in a year or two. He was dealt with very harshly by the board in their (non) communication regarding the loss of his job and it was good to see that he still has a soft spot for Freo and is not vindictive after the way he was treated.

You're on the right track that Drum did do some good recruiting but I also think he would have a grin on his face now that he looks back and realises that even though he got the sack, alot of other people were moved on (including board members).

Maybe with him being a Victorian MP, maybe we can get him to wield some influence in our favour in the future?.
