Has been rumours flying around that he will leave Port in the hope of more opportunities. Was even a small bit in the paper the other day saying that Geelong were chasing him (Age I think)

White would be an excellent pick up especially in the event we lost Gardnier. Port fans in the know say he should have replaced Thurstans before the finals and that he was very stiff to miss out. They rate him a much better player. He is still only 21, dominates in the SANFL and would be a definate starter at most other clubs. Port fans are bleeding about the prospect of losing him as he's had injuries and they think he'll be a gun forward given time.

Would be a very astute buy considering Port's dominance. Could be one of those smaller trades we were talking about before that pays off big time. Would our second pick be enough to get him. Maybe throw Spriggs in for good measure.

nana I get the feeling you seriously underrate our players. While Damon would be an astute pick up, he is hardly in the class, at the minute, of Enright. Enright has proven he is an established player and is only 23 himself. Thompson has said a number of times he is in our best 15.

White is uncontracted and by all reports might leave. A mid range pick and or Spriggs/ Rahilly would be about the mark

Damon White

Guernsey Number: 24

Height 192cm

Weight: 92kg

Recruited From: Perth (WA)

Debut: -

Date of Birth: 16 August 1983
FANFILE

The highly rated youngster made a welcome return to football in 2003 after a serious ankle injury ruined his first year at the club in 2002. The 20-year-old from Perth showed glimpses of why the Power was excited to pick him up at no. 62 in the 2001 National Draft. He played predominantly up forward for North Adelaide and showed off his big leap, strong hands and athleticism, pulling down some big marks. Was a Power emergency in ’03 and has ambitions of slotting in alongside Cornes and Tredrea up forward.

Can one ask , what makes him more special than any other tall potential we have drafted. Taken at 62 in 2001, if we thought hw such hot stuff wouldnt we have taken him ourslelves?
Its just a question. Maybe he is a late developer but its not like he a senior player or a local we a bringing home.

Just some other comments from the Port board

"Yes he is a standout SANFL player. At the moment he is in that tricky position of being too good for the SANFL but he cant work his way into the AFL side.

His SANFL stats this year were:
14 Games, 193 disposals, 99 marks, 28 goals and was named in the best players 9 times in those 14 games.

Most of his first half of the year was played at Centre Half Back."

"6 AFL games after 3 seasons for a Key Forward at Port is not that bad. Thurstans didn't look like getting a game until his fifth year.
The problem has been that Damon was dropped 3-4 times this year, and never because of bad form. He never looked substandard in any AFL or SANFL match he played. He showed promising ability to combine naturally with Tredders. His hands are solid, although he will be a leading forward, rather than a pack-mark or leaper. He has a very penetrating kick, and is clever with handball - he never holds up play when he has the ball, which would have been one of Chad Cornes' biggest criticisms when he played forward.

During the season, it was apparent to many of us, that Damon was not being selected/dropped on form alone. That would be his biggest gripe - he was more deserving of a spot in our side than others, whose form either wavered or was down most of the season"

Port fans seem really disappointed to lose him so there must be something there.

We'd definately prefer a better draft pick with no player attached. Also with a couple of other clubs chasing he's not going to be a bargain basement pick up.

But if he does decide to leave and you guys get him, you won't be disappointed.

I really rate Damon, however i feel he gets far more praise from Port fans on here than he actually deserves.

I'd be willing to do a deal, but don't buy into a lot of the hype.

Yeh, very close to playing the finals team. Will be a good player. Not sure if we'll get him.

Interesting to note he played most of the year down back for North Adel before going forward and continuing to do well. A flexible young tall is exactly what we need. We have done well in the past in picking young Port talls who struggled to get a game. If he turns out to be as good as Tommy H we'll all be smiling.

3rd rd draft pick or Rahilly/Spriggs is more than worth the gamble. Especially as Damon has expressed a desire to seek other opportunities at another club

Knowing how high Port rate White, I can't see them doing either deal.

White was reasonably close to playing in the GF for them, and for them to trade him, he'd certainly command more than a 3rd round pick or a dead piece of wood like Spriggs or Rahilly, neither of whom would command a game in the seniors for Port.

I'd be shattered to lose him cos i c him as a 200 game player for the club. I think he will stay and start in the first game of 2005. Don't even mention Spriggs as a possible trade. Possibly the worst player playing AFL footy

Well for starters he's not even playing AFL footy, he's lumbering in the seconds.

I rate White as well, The Cates will have to give a draft pice (our first) and say Rahilly or even McCarthy, Tell them if they dont trade we will send Spriggs to the Port Magpies....

Rahilly an play but is behind players like D Johnson. Spriggs is as mentioned Dead wood, who ducks his head and only has his own interests at heart. He Would not command a game at any AFL club and is lucky to get a game at a VFL Club..................hmmm just the type of player Hawthorn is after

If he was that good hed have played in the Finals ahead of Thurstans. Worth a stargith swap for Corey Enright if Ports rumoured interest in him is true.

nana I don't know what Corey's done to you or your family but pls stop underselling him. Thompson himself has stated he is in our best 15 players. He was second in the b&F at 22 and was injured all of this year. We have such short memories. Enright was quickly rushed back for the finals when he was clearly under done. Thats how good he is.

I'd trade him for Ottens but not Damon White. It would be like them trading Dew to us for Tom Lonegan

If Damon White is as promising as people make him out to be, Enright will be about the right currency for him. After Tredrea, the forwards at port start to slide off Dramatically with one game wonder Thurstans and Lade, who goes ok, but is really a ruckman who can kick well. No dount if he stayed next year, there would be a chance for Damon White to play quite a major role. Given Whites talent and Ports questionable depth, Port wont trade him away for peanuts. And when nip comes to tuck, we came top 4 with minimal impact from Enright, who with the likely emergence of Tim Callan and questionable disposal, will find it increasingly tougher and tougher to break into the team. Nothing against the guy, I just see him as expendable.

Expendable he may be, but I think there's a few on this board who grossly undervalue him.

nana some of us think Enright is still promising. He's only 23!!

He is expendable but not for a pure speculation trade like White. White may never make it at AFL level. Enright will play plenty of AFL

Hey! I never said he wasnt promising and wasnt going to play plenty of AFL, dont misconstrew what I say.

Enright will be a great player, as could White. If I had the choice between a great FF or HBF I know what id choose.

Wasnt Ling the Runner up the last two years in the B&F?

As I questioned in an earlier post this kid was drafted at 62.Now we all have heard of Hird at 70+ and Chris Grant 100+ but we have got talls on our list picked far earlier than this, so what are his assets. If he had a great leap, awsome stamina, supurb speed, a booming straight kick at draft camp I feel he would have been picked at far lower number, admittedly 2001 was strong.
Before gathering another run of the mill tall, can somone give us some stats on his leap and speed etc.
