Melbourne defender Simon Buckley, who impressed last year as a rebounding half-back before being cut down by injury this season, is attracting significant interest from several clubs.
The Demons could move him on for the right deal, which could be a second or third round pick.
They rate Buckley highly, but have others who play a similar role.
Carlton is one of the clubs linked to Buckley, with the Blues also believed to be interested in Daniel Bell.

Thoughts?

Simon Buckley yes, Daniel Bell No. Simon seems to be chock filled with potential and could even be a quality 2nd forward, no need for Daniel Bell me thinks

Don't mind Buckley at all as a player. Primarily a midfielder but can provide run out of the backline. Only played the 1 game for the Demons this season (round 1) so may seek a trade out of the club for greater opportunities.

Bell, on the other hand, is a very average footballer. I'd probably vomit if we go near him.

Not sure what Buckley's value would be on the market but an option could be to be involved in the McLean trade as a 'sweetner'.

Buckley missed mainly due to injury, and the McLean deal's already pretty 'sweet' for you i'd have thought

Buckley injured all this year fellas. Has talent to break the lines with his running (actually quite judd like in this regard) however his kicking his very hit and miss.

Daniel Bell on the other hand. Lol how old is he now? Like 25 I'd assume and he still can't get a game in the worst side in the league???

i would 100% take buckley, from what i heard he has enormous potential and we could use a player of his calibre to bolster our injury prone backline. thumbs up for me :thumbsu::thumbsu: daniel bell im not too sure about bell though, cant comment.

Why is everyone talking about Simon Buckley all a sudden. I started a thread but some idiot closed it for no reason wasn't my thread any good but now this one is.

Anyway you get Simon Buckley you can trade Jordan Russell for a different type player to Adelaide or Port.

JR is going noooooooowhere

I'm reliably informed that Buckley will be a Blue. Fast, long kick and takes the game on, but poor decision maker and a bit of a turnover merchant.

It's funny how Carlton seem to love all our hacks.

We should pay you to take Bell.

Bell, Buckley and CJ LOL :thumbsu:

That's as scary as the possibility of Jack Watts and John Butcher/Matthew Panos playing together. :thumbsu:

If the Dees wanted a soft key position forward, they should have made the right choice and picked Naitanui with one.

And then traded Mclean to draft Butcher or Panos with pick 11.

Trust the Demons to do it the wrong way round.

Thanks for taking all our rejects off our hands guys, first johnson, now buckley and bell :D
Now all we need is for pick 11 to become a better player than mclean:thumbsu:

What....no Richmond, Essendon or Collingwood?

We are linked with just about every player that comes into question. It gets tiresome.

Lets trade Mark Riley away before he has half Melbourne's list on our list.
You forget Ratten spent time there as an AC as well.....why not blame him?

We recruited Johnson from the Dees who cant hit the side of a barn and now we want to recruit Buckley who is on par with his poor kicking.

Is that all Mark Riley can bring to our club - recruiting players who cant kick or get a game for the wooden spoon club??

Incorrect on Johnson. He is generally a superb kick, it is just in the one on ones and physical stakes that he lacks. You are probably judging him on that one game where he turned the ball over a few times in quick succession before going off injured. Either that was a fluke or he was already hampered by the injury at that time. Kicking is definitely his number one attribute.

No, I am judging on about 4 - 5 games when he has butchered the ball - he looks polished, but he turns it over.

The game you are referrring to is the Bulldogs game when he turned the ball over 3 - 4 times in the first quarter. He went off injured and maybe a coincidence but we lifted and got on top of an a wastefull Bulldogs at Etihad.

When he has a little bit of space, and he is on the run.

Set shot (and kick-in) he has been a bit hit and miss, but on the run he is a gun...........needs to work on his handballing in close as when his space gets shut down he handballs as an after thought and it's usually a hospital pass.

There was at least one other game, vs the Dons I think where he butchered it kicking in.
A large part of the problem was he was obvioulsy the designated kicker, but daydreaming after the point.......whoever had it in the square would then put it down.....CJ wandered in casually, and had barely picked up the pill when the ump (quite rightly) blew play on and he had to rush the kick......this happened a number of times over a few games.

In general play though he rarely misses and is a penetrating low kick.

Enough to perservere with for a PSD pick........i.e. hasn't cost us anything.
