No idea why this guy's name isn't thrown up more often for an ODI cap.

Warner and Finch have been opening pretty much the last decade with a few fill ins when rested etc but no idea why Hughes hasn't had a go.

His numbers are incredible averaging 58 with s/r 86 in his 35 odd games.

Is he now a smokey that Finch has retired or will we just go with a makeshift opener?

Hughes is 34 next month, but surely his name will be in the mix for the upcoming World Cup you'd think?

With Warner, Smith and Carey certainties in the top 7, it would be hard to play the 4 batting allrounders in the same side (Green, Marsh, Stoinis, Maxwell) unless you played 3 specialist bowlers only. Labuschagne and Head are the other 2 that come to mind to occupy batting spots.

They're not picking him for the first time at 34/35 years old.

Josh Philippe and Ben McDermott opened together in the West Indies last year, that's a good guide for what's next.

The selectors don't really take the ODD cup into account these days because the format is all over the shop. Been a bit of a joke since they went through the phase of playing all the games in Sydney on grounds with 50 metre boundaries. More likely to get picked on BBL form.
