AFL Club
Richmond
lets face it -there can only be one....

Jake King
Age: 24
Height: 174 cm
Weight: 74kg

Pro's:
speed & Acceleration
Strength
Tackling
Work Rate
leadership (on the track )
Aggression

Cons:
Decision making
Too short
man marking
skills can be inconsistent
tactical awareness is poor
poor goal kicking

Daniel Jackson
Age:22
Height: 188cm
Weight: 90kg

Pro's:
Booming Kick
aggression
a good size
shown potential as a defensive stopper
general speed ( not his acceleration compared to king )
strength

Cons:
can over-evaluate his own ability to shrug tackles - gets caught a lot
inconsistent
below average skills under pressure
lacks presence on the field
lacks postioning
lacks "elite" fitness to compete with the best midfielder in the league when tagging.

if anyone else has any pro's or cons worth stating - do so.

I really cant split them - but i am positive we only have room for one on the list beyond this season. we need to keep turning players over if we are going to improve.

so lets vote on it.

Daniel Jackson:
Con - Decision making

Keep Jacko. His only real problem is that he runs back into congestion looking for a handball instead of running away from packs and kicking it 65m. Once he gets this out of his game he'll be pretty good

Daniel Jackson, but only if he learns to take the first option.
Otherwise I would take zero, Kings size is too much of a liability
Although I would probably cut them both

Jackson has had an eternity in the system for christ's sake. How long do we need to hang onto players hoping they magically come good after five years????????????????

Jacko you can kick it 65m...when you get the footy you seem content with handballing it 5m to congestion
at least if you kick it 65m away then its another kick from goal away

TRUE - but he is still 2 years younger than king

I'll answer your question Astro. If I had a gun held to my head and was forced to make a call, I'd keep Jackson over King. But I don't want either player at the club next season.

I think in cases like this you need to keep the most versatile player. Jackson has the ability to play forward, midfield and halfback depending on who we're playing at the time.

kelvin moore took some time

rather jacko than chris hyde anyway

The way i see it, there is still improvement left in Jackson. Whether we can get that out of him is a different story.
King is at the peak of his powers, theres no more improvement i can see (unless he can grow 15 cms at the age of 24).
Jackson for mine.

Wallace played Jackson on Bartel last night...

Jackson's efforts earned the plaudits from his coach Terry Wallace
post-match.

"He's had a few of those roles over the course of the season and he can
go and play on his own rights and go and win the footy, but he's got a
nice, strong body and he's a fit young man, who has also got speed and
the ability to go in and be able to run with a bloke," Wallace said.

"I think that he'll learn and handle that and we wanted him to play on a
Brownlow Medallist for exactly that purpose and to get some experience
on playing against the best."
He's not going to be delisted at season's end and nor should he be.

King is only in his 2nd season and outplayed both Newman and McMahon for rebounding ability in the first half of the season before he had a string of problems with his hand and back related hamstring. Blind Freddie can see he's carrying a niggle - he's lost a lot of zip and is carrying the ball in straight lines like a bloke who can't manage anything else. When he was fit at the start of the year, his ability to squirm away from would-be tacklers by arching the back and creating space where there was none was a major feature of his game.

We played King at maybe 60% match fitness ahead of Meyer, Connors etc for a reason.

He's not going anywhere either.

Jackson should kick it to the shithouse every time. Don't mind him and have seen more to encourage me. Kingy is OK and if he is in the bottom 5 players on our list then that's still not bad. He did win a nice telly for his Carlton game

Jacko is 6 feet 2..... maybe HBF?

End of year: cheerio Casserly, Tivendale, JON, Hyde, Pettifer, rookie Polak if we can...

5 ND draft picks and 1 PSD. We should be cherry ripe then. Oops, did I just type a Spudism?

I think if we are going to be serious and assess these blokes properly they will both find themselves off the list at the end of the season. Clearly for mine both dont cut it at the level.

However if I had to choose one I would say keep Jackson as he isn't as ******* as King.

Keep Jackson King is too undisciplined when he tackles he gives away too many free kicks for errant tackles and dodgy spoils due to new rules.
Jackson has so much more potential than king, for all his turnovers he also did some really nice things in the traffic as well.
We just always notice when a player stuffs up because it is always so obvious :thumbsu:

king is too undisiplined and can be exploited at full back by a taller opponent (ie anyone he plays on).

Jackson:
Pros: can mark on a lead and kick a long accurate goal
