that could be good for tambling knowing at training that if he is to play this week he needs to earn itbeaver's army said:by the sounds of the report on 10 he will be contending with tambling(i think)
would be great for both of them. competition would bring the best out of them if they new they were competing against each otherjackson_rules said:that could be good for tambling knowing at training that if he is to play this week he needs to earn it

Tambo!!!! said:i want Tambo to debutemeyer scares me with his small frame
but he is a hard nut and i would not mind seeing him getting a run with the seniors
jltiger said:I would like to see Tambling and Meyer develop in the magoos for most of the year, giving them a few games towards the end of the year due to their light frames (Deledio more developed and its ok for TW to play him off a flank).
Why send these underdeveloped youngsters to the wolves in a rebuilding year. The way Melbourne treated McLean and Silvia in 04 should be a method to be followed with these 2 players in my opinion.
In a perfect world thats what I'd like as well but last year Melbourne were winning games and if injuries did kick in there were plenty of bigger senior type bodies that could be played like Phil Read and Godfrey. The only two developed bodies we got at reserves level are really Morrison and Hilton. So when the injuries hit its more than likely some skinny kids that have some form under their belt are going to get some games.jltiger said:I would like to see Tambling and Meyer develop in the magoos for most of the year, giving them a few games towards the end of the year due to their light frames (Deledio more developed and its ok for TW to play him off a flank).

However, Alex Gilmour has been quietly plugging away for a couple of years now and managed a BOG on Monday against Box Hill to back up solid form for Coburg this year. 2-3 years in the system and the best player last week, IMHO should earn him a spot this week ahead of both Meyer and Tambling.
jltiger said:Fair point Kretchy. That being the case, attrtion rates will alllow for these kids to receive exposure, why rush them? I would hate to see a skinny kid like Tambling rushed in against Port and get crunched by a returning Pickett or a tank like Treadrea..
jltiger said:On an earlier point made that there are wolves at reserves level as well. It is a level down, the pace is slower, the bodies arent as big. The kids can gain confidence and strength before making their mark on the big league.
Weaver said:Yep, one shoulder injury and a kid is out for the season. They miss all that development and gym time when they most need it. Hard to learn the game watching from the stands.
... and every reserve side has their own 5-6 teenagers who they don't want crunched, so there is always a match-up available.
Put Tambling, Deledio and Meyer in the seniors and one of them is going to have to play on an 85kg midfielder. While there is only one of them you can normally find a suitable match-up.
