Yesterday went down and watched Coburg play in the vfl. Danny Meyer i think was easily one of the best on ground and looks damn good. Do you think he will get a game this week?

Has great skills but doesnt seem a midfielder , more a flanker. And we really need another flanker
I really hope he developes

Must be in the running - will be a very good player. Johnson back might keep him out. Should get a game sooner rather than later.

Johnson still out apparently, from Fox Footy

Danny looks a great talent. My only concern is that he is a really courageous player with eyes only for the ball but with a slight frame and a couple of the more cynical opposition players (eg Byron) could take advantage of that.

Talent wise easily in our best 22, probably best 10. Will be a good day when he debuts.

that could be good for tambling knowing at training that if he is to play this week he needs to earn it
would be great for both of them. competition would bring the best out of them if they new they were competing against each other

Tambling needs more game time IMO. Meyer has done more work and has been near selection for a couple of weeks.

i want Tambo to debute ;) meyer scares me with his small frame :o but he is a hard nut and i would not mind seeing him getting a run with the seniors

I would like to see Tambling and Meyer develop in the magoos for most of the year, giving them a few games towards the end of the year due to their light frames (Deledio more developed and its ok for TW to play him off a flank).
Why send these underdeveloped youngsters to the wolves in a rebuilding year. The way Melbourne treated McLean and Silvia in 04 should be a method to be followed with these 2 players in my opinion.

If there form warrants selection than play them. Playing in the magoos is just as dangerous and there are just as many wolves playing in the ones. Tambling is ready when he is fit and has some runs on the board. Meyer has been knocking on the door for a few games know.

In a perfect world thats what I'd like as well but last year Melbourne were winning games and if injuries did kick in there were plenty of bigger senior type bodies that could be played like Phil Read and Godfrey. The only two developed bodies we got at reserves level are really Morrison and Hilton. So when the injuries hit its more than likely some skinny kids that have some form under their belt are going to get some games.

Fair point Kretchy. That being the case, attrtion rates will alllow for these kids to receive exposure, why rush them? I would hate to see a skinny kid like Tambling rushed in against Port and get crunched by a returning Pickett or a tank like Treadrea.

On an earlier point made that there are wolves at reserves level as well. It is a level down, the pace is slower, the bodies arent as big. The kids can gain confidence and strength before making their mark on the big league.

I'm as excited as anyone about Tambling and from the little i've seen Meyer might be the classiest of our 3 top 2004 picks over time. However, Alex Gilmour has been quietly plugging away for a couple of years now and managed a BOG on Monday against Box Hill to back up solid form for Coburg this year. 2-3 years in the system and the best player last week, IMHO should earn him a spot this week ahead of both Meyer and Tambling.

From what I've seen, Meyer is alot more advanced in his development so far this year. He was great for Coburg in the past two weeks and his skills and balance and poise are second to none. I think you guys need to wait for Tambling to prove he's ready before giving him a game. He was weel beaten by Rudolph on Monday (Him and Brennan vs. Rix were our only 2 wins) and people are already talking about him debuting, I know the kid is exciting, but give him a chance to find his feet first.

I think, despite Meyers small (fragile) frame, he is ready to have a dip at the big time. All the best for Danny Meyer in year 2005 and beyond.

Gilmour is only a 2nd year player and was the youngest player in the league last year. He is only 2 months older than Meyer and Tambling.

Yep, one shoulder injury and a kid is out for the season. They miss all that development and gym time when they most need it. Hard to learn the game watching from the stands.

... and every reserve side has their own 5-6 teenagers who they don't want crunched, so there is always a match-up available.

Put Tambling, Deledio and Meyer in the seniors and one of them is going to have to play on an 85kg midfielder. While there is only one of them you can normally find a suitable match-up.

I'm sure there is big players in the VFL as well, you cant put them in cotton wool, if they get injured which is going to happen than stiff.
