Darren Lockyer is a living legend, not only a living Rugby League legend but a living Sports legend and deserves every accolade and every piece of good that comes his way. I for one am glad that he won't be lost to either sport or Rugby League.

And thus, let the appreciation for this champion being!

Darren Lockyer's five defining seasons
As the clock ticks down to Darren Lockyer's record-equalling 349th first-grade game, against the Warriors on Saturday night, foxsports.com.au remembers the five seasons that will define the legend that we are witnessing.

While the great one's dominance at representative level is indisputable, it's important to pinpoint the moments in first grade in which Lockyer's career moved from talented to junior to one of the greatest players of all time.

We've picked out the top five from the glorious 17 seasons that have defined his greatness.

One of the best ever rugby league players I have seen. Aren't we just so lucky to see him play live.

Its just a pity he's retiring because I think he had at least another 1 or 2 years of great footy left in him.

BRONCOS fans will have the chance to play a unique role in the farewell of record-breaking skipper Darren Lockyer at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday week.

The Courier-Mail can reveal fans will be allowed on to the playing area after the big game against Manly-Warringah, Lockyer's last home and away fixture in his 17th and final season at the top.

The Father's Day clash, which kicks off at 4pm on Sunday week, is a sell-out, with fans clamouring for tickets to acknowledge Lockyer's efforts for the Broncos, Queensland and Australia.

tepping foot onto the Lang Park turf usually means a trip to court and a hefty fine.

Pitch invaders or streakers are run down by security staff and frog-marched off the ground in front of cheering fans before being dealt with by the law.

But in honour of retiring Broncos icon Darren Lockyer, thousands of fans will be allowed onto the famous Brisbane football ground on Father's Day next month as part of his unique farewell celebrations.

As a Broncos fan I'm going to miss him. Bit annoyed I couldn't get tickets to Broncos v Manly RD 26, but intend on travelling down to Sydney if the Broncos make the Grand Final this year.

Make sure you get tickets to the finals game in week 1 at Suncorp.

Likely to be Lockyer's last ever game at the venue.

I'll try to and hopefully he gets one more Suncorp game. Fingers crossed that Broncos win in Week 1 and Storm or Manly lose.

Don't like your chances but good luck, Lockyer deserves as many games as possible at home in the remainder of the year.

If Broncos win in week 1 and Melbourne and Manly also win, Broncos will get a home game in week 2.

I know, I want a home prelim though thats why I want Manly or Melbourne to lose in the first week if the Broncos win (However if the Broncos lose I'd be pissed off it Manly and Melbourne BOTH lose). I HATE the McIntyre System. I'd rather have us playing Manly in Sydney in the first week of the final and a home prelim and a week off for a win and a home semi for a loss.

I love the McIntyre System, keeps every team on their toes and not to rest on their laurels of what they have done in the regular season and reward teams for winning and punish teams for losing (the definition of finals matches) while also rewarding the two best teams from the 26 weeks for dominating the competition.

I hate it. It is ridiculous that a team can finish sixth, lose and NOT get knocked out. I also hate that a team that finishes sixth can win and results go their way can earn a week off. I also hate that a team can finish eighth, fluke it in the first week and get a home final the following week. I also hate that teams that finish fifth to eighth can get a home final past the first week. I hate that a team can finish third and get knocked out if results don't go their way or win and not get a week off. I hate that it is possible for the eighth placed team to have the same amount of home finals as the team that finishes first. I could go on about how I hate the McIntyre System. Having said that the McIntyre System is more exciting.

Darren Lockyer is rapidly on the decline and is being overtaken by Mitchell Pearce. Lockyer decided it's best to retire now before Pearce overtakes him in skill, repsect and power in the coming seasons. The intimidation of M. Pearce will force many other players into early retirement. Cooper Cronk will leave once he realises he can't break into the nation #7 position, Cameron Smith will retire once he realises the captaincy belongs with Mitchell. There is no point mourning the lost players because M. Pearce IS the next immortal and he is coming to dominate for the next 10 years.

A leader article in my paper today following the death of the painter Margaret Olley mentions the Australian Living Treasures, an official title I'd never heard of. Is DL one?

Lockyer will beone of those players people will be talking about in 50 years time.

He is a legend and will always go down as one of the greats. Being part of that amazing Queensland team and being instrumental in their wins will always be remembered and put in the face of the blues fans.

I admire him and he deserves al the praise he gets!!
