I have never seen him play, what type of player is he? A running midfielder like Long or a forward pocket specialist like Farmer. I know he won't be as good as either of these players, I just want to get an idea of how he plays.

Would I be right in saying he is a bit less developed (both physically and skills wise) version of daniel wells?

I've seen a bit of him & all I really know is that he is damn quick!

Roo fans reckon he's a wingman/flanker with good goal sense. He's very lightly built & considered a bit soft.

With a bit of physical devlopment & a bit of mongrel he could be a player. I reckon he's got a fair way to go yet.

Hopefully we'll get a look at him in the Wizard cup.

He's distantly related to Wells, The Motlops & Wanganeen I'm told, not the worst of bloodlines that.

He'd be more a Long type than a Farmer from what I'm told.

saw him running around on monday... with all the hype I tried to keep an eye on him. Quick, yes. Skill, need work. Might have just been me but it looked like he was playing off a forward flank or a wing? didnt look like he got to deep in either of the forward lines but then I could be wrong

Wopper playing forward was interesting with thoes deffencive skills he would play alot like danial chick wouldnt he?

Reckon Whopper will play forward this year, ND hinted as much at the AGM. Not that much of a surprise really as we need a small forward & Whopper is handy around goal. Moving forward worked for Pickett, no reason why it won't work for Whoppa.

Reckon you'd be spot on about Davey, he's a wingman/flanker. That's where he played his best footy for Port. He may be pushed into a pocket because we need one, but it's not his natural game.

Whopper has always impressed me when he move up forward, he has good evasive skills and rarely falls to the ground when he is playing well, i think he'd have to work on his goal kicking though.
The impression I'm getting with Davey is that he really is a medium to long term prospect. Sounds like he needs to
a put some bulk on,
b work on his defensive skills and
c get some of that white line fever

I think Sandy games will be definitely in the "must see" category this year. We really have some exciting youngsters.

No doubt about your last comment, plenty of up & comers.

Just on Whopper as a forward, think back to the 2002 Semi against Adelaide. He was awesome that night although it was more as a flanker. He's kicked some brilliant goals in his time (Vs West Coast & Carlton in 2000 for starters). Given a prolonged stay up forward I think he can produce the goods.

Davey has a long way to go but then you could say that about a few of our current players, Williams for starters.

Only thing that scares me with whopper up forward is that every time he kicks for goal i feel he has pulled a hammy... always seems a bit propy after it

Peter 'Whopper' Walsh.

:)

I'm guessing because of a large part of his anatomy, but I could be wrong. Anyway, interesting discussion because I was thinking to myself the other day that he could be a good forward for us. He is inconsistantly being played down back, so why not give him a go up forward where he can unleash and kick a few goals for us. Hopefully Daniher tries that. I'd also like to see White play up forward. Preferably out of the goalsquare while Neitz makes a lead. He can take a high flying mark, but needs to improve on his contested grabs. With him and Neitz up forward, Miller or Smith at centre half forward, Robertson, Vardy, Green and Bruce all roaming around, we will be difficult to match up on. But the midfield needs to be working first before this can pay off.

Would be nice for the team to get a lift by the supporters pumping up to!
I dont mind people turning up to games and taking my seet (not thats it reserverd just thats where i sit every week) come finals time if i see them out supporting week in week out!!!!!

hehe but this gripe is probably for another thread....
