Loats is seriously a great talent and could be absolutely anything for the cats this year.

His one and only best on ground performance for the Hawks was against St Kilda at the Dome in 2002. He killed them. Tore them apart.

Unfortunately it was in a game of cricket, where he scored 109 runs off just 44 balls! Apparently he hit 30 off one over!

Hope you get some use out of him, he had a few decent games at Box Hill last year, but hasn't made much of an impact in Senior footy yet.

Apart from that, it's fair to say that you've got one of the best batsmen to ever play in the VFL!

Good luck this year Cats. You have a team which is difficult to predict. Lose to Kangaroos then nearly beat West Coast and Brisbane??????

It will be make or break for Loats this year as he should get a fair run in the seniors as he will be battling for the backup role this year with Chambers. Geelong won't try and do what they did in the past and put King in as the sole ruck. But I don't think anyone is expecting too much from the big man.

Still, we're hopefull that young Blake will quickly develop and take on the number two mantle with an eye on the number one ruck when King starts slowing down.

Shwab,

I notice you follow Hawthorn but if you have taken the coach's name, I think you have spelt it incorrectly :D

Now that King is injured (again), this opens the door for Loats to play a more prominent role in the seniors this year. King obviously is limited due to the heightening injuries he receives, and the addition of David on our list could be better than first anticipated.

Him being in the team will certainly add much respite for King, and in smaller proportions Chambers if he replaces King for a match or two during the season.

I think the club are looking at King playing second fiddle in the ruck.He was going to play up forward more this year, leaving Loats or Chambers to ruck.

A question for you as a Hawthorn supporter. Who was the Hawthorn official that was instrumental in Hawthorn drafting Loats in 1998? and you can leave out John Turnbull.

Speaking of this, anyone else see the quote by Ken Hinkley in the addy yesterday?

'So who is the next cenury-goalkicking, key-position forward? No one according to Hinkley. In fact, Geelong wont even have a key-position attacker'
KH- "My whole thing about it is that I don't want to have a so-called key forward, I wasnt a key-forward line or group."

Weird.....anyone actually seeing this working? Im not so confident, but it may expose tall defences i spose, or am i off on a completely different track?

If Hinkley doesn't want a key forward, Geelong will just get beaten each week. They need a KPP and they need to play him. Loats can kick for goal.
