How has Spriggs been performing in the pre-season? Is he likely to be a regular in the Cats midfield this season?

He's been ok, but not oustanding.

I've no doubt he'll be picked most weeks, although i'd like to think we had some better options.

I think the AFL makes Thompson play Spriggs to make up for Ling.

I picked Spriggs in one of my fantasy footy teams but he has shown throughout the pre-season that no matter how fit he might be, he is still just a boy trying to play with men.

He reminds me a bit of Aaron Lord, looks the part, just cant play.

He had a gret game last year at Subi against Freo, nearly won the game off his own bat... As for the Dream team, personally i feel he is overpriced @ 160,000 odd thousand. Was $50,000 last year.

Mirrors could play, just thought he was better than he actually was.

Yes, after a year off for a knee reco he was at $50,000. Most prices in that Dream Team are way off. You seen the money Foster is on?

Jeff "Charlie" Smith worth the maximum $300K, no doubt.

From what I saw against St Kilda, Spriggs cost us at least 2 goals by failing to put his body on the line when it counted. The first one was when he ducked his head getting back for a mark in the backline. For all the press about Ling getting cleaned up, there were 3 questionable coaching decisions that had a major factor in us losing the game:

1. Spriggs staying on - wasn't up to it
2. Kingsley on the bench in the last quarter when he'd already kicked 5
3. Mooney going off in the last quarter and Hamill promptly goaling

Am I the only one who noticed this??

Back to Spriggs, he's ok, but I reckon I'd play just about every other midfielder we've got before him. Doesn't hurt the opposition enough when he has the ball, and was exposed under real pressure on Saturday night.

Kingsley and Mooney both cramped badly in the last quarter and were unable to continue on the ground.

He's great value, will kick 30-40 goals this year. Will have his bad weeks, but is a good enough mark to get 3-4 shots at goal per game.

Whether he converts those shots into goals is another matter altogether. Judging by his performences in the Wiz Cup, Matty still has some work to do on his kicking. That set shot for goal in the Grand Final was a shocker, lucky to thread it through.

He took the screamer against Wet Toast

40 goals is a bit optimistic. I'd be happy with 25. He goes alright with the 3rd best defender but I don't think he has enough class to ever be our main forward target.

Speaking of future forward targets down at Catland, how is Mackie going? Has he put on much bulk and does he have much chance of playing seniors this year?

Mackie is still quite skinny yet has put on around 10kg and is looking bulkier than when he first arrived. He's just starting to build some match fitness after an interrupted pre-season following some surgery on his knee. I think he's a chance to debut during the year and play 3-5 games IMO. Being a fan of Mackie, I'd like to think he has a chance in the first half of the year of making his debut.

One correction. He wont be a future forward target. He wont have the body to play in a key position role. He will be a tall midfielder or a flanker.
