Just another Wirra thread :)

Regardless of whether he plays or not this week (and if he doesn't I think we will notice how much we'll miss him), I just want to know peoples opinions of him.
IMO he is our most talented footballer. Just the way he reads the play, his overhead abilities for his size, his flawless skilss, his one handed pickups just make for orgasmic football ( ). I know his shin splints restrict his pace and he is alot slower than he was in previous years but besides that I can see much more that I would want to improve in him. After many years of frustration this year we are seeing all of Wirras magical talent being put to use on a consistent week to week basis.

Watching the boys play in Melbourne, I usually sit behind the goals and see alot of Wirra. It never ceases to amaze me, how cool this guy is under pressure. I have never seen any player as calm as him and able to execute pin point kicks under pressure. He more than makes up for not havng a rebounding CHB, especially when playing the sweeper role across HB.

I don't think people give this guy enough credit especially non-eagles supporters. Arguably our most important non tall. Well done to 'Punda' on a magnificent start to 05' and heres to hoping he can continue his terrific form throughout the year (and get up for saturday's game :)).

Here, Here

Wirra is a CHAMP!

Dunno if he will get up and dont reckon they should risk him if he isnt 100%. I hope they give Wooden a go.
I remember back in 1996 when Wirra first started he had some weird pony tail and was that skinny. I cant imagine how good he would have been if he hadnt been injured so much. But thats footy I guess. I went to one of his first games (Round 6 1996 V Melbourne @ Princes Park) we won by 106 points and Wirra kicked a great goal on the run and I thought - "YEAH - This kid is gonna be good!"

Wirrpunda is a gifted player and this season he is back to his best. As we can all see, when Wirra is at his best he is one of the best players in our side and in the whole competition.

I remember a few years back he was leading the brownlow after 8 rounds but he got injured and hardly played the rest of the year. I think after 7 rounds this season he is right up amongst the favourites again.

His loyalty to the club should also never be overlooked. An out and out champion.

There was small talk last year around trade time that he might go home to Melbourne (hes originally from Healsville). WHat do people think about his chances of going back. To me he seems like a one club player and lets hope to god that we see Punda running around in the blue and gold for many seasons to come.

Depends if we win a Premiership in the next year or 2.I think he could leave if we do.

If he was playing for a Vic team the melbourne dominated media would have him classed as an ABSOLUTE SUPERSTAR - and that's what he is.

Same deal with about 20 other Eagles over the last X Years.....

Remember this time last year? Total Package was saying he was finished but I was the only one to stand up for him. He is in the best form of his career at the moment.

He hasn't come up and McConnell has been named to replace him.

Wirrpunda would have to be my favourite current Eagle. Poise, balance, courage, ability to read the play, ball skills, great in the wet and still plays in the number he first got when drafted.

I think his girlfriend would have plenty influence if it came to making a decision about leaving WA.
