Davis>>>Ball

Freo's 2nd round pick (#20?) would be kept. Brett Peake would go to the Saints, along with our 2nd rounder (#30) for Ball.

Maybe.

Sounds entirely plausible to me.
has anyone heard anything more about this rumour or is it coming from that thread on the draft board which was deleted?

I keep reading on multiple other threads that we are trading Davis here and there for a pick in the 20's to then trade that pick for ball.

Davis is a better player than ball at this stage of both their careers.

Davis has better skills.

Davis is quicker.

Davis has X-factor.

Don't get me wrong, ball is a great player but we shouldn't be getting rid of one of our best player to obtain him.....he should compliment our current midfield!

Thoughts?

1) That means Luke Ball has more upside - he is not in his prime and so we get him for longer

2) Which we all get to admire and see like twice a game... Luke Ball's skills (dishing the ball out from the bottom of the pack) we get to see much more frequently.

3) Fair point.

4) So what? Our whole team is X Factor. I'm sick of it. Thomas, Didak, Davis, Dick, Pendlebury (to an extent). I'll take substance thanks.

Yes we certainly could get more than a 2nd round draft pick, but in terms of what Collingwood need, Davis is more of the same of what we already have in abundance (outside mid/ forward pocket) and Luke Ball is what we require.

Hence, Ball>>>>Davis, for what Collingwood need.

First I'll say I love Leon and would like something else in return for a Gain Ball Lose Davis trade, something along the lines of a ten spot upgrade in the draft that was mentioned with Freo involved would be good.

But we do want to win premierships, hence why some people want a trade like this to happen.

To win a premiership you need 22 players playing well in FINALS footy and especially the GRAND FINAL, something about 10 days ago Luke Ball did in a hard, tough contested footy game that he loves and finals is all about something we got exposed in two of our three finals, and we need.

Unfortunately Davis consistently goes missing in these type of games, this is why some people wouldn't be to upset with that trade.

If we are to snare Jolly then we will have to give up a decent player to get Ball as well I would think, if Jolly doesn't get done then we can get Ball with 14 and keep Leon and I would be happy with that as well.

Agreed this is a win win.
We get a hard in and under like ball who is 25.
Davis goes back home plays 22 rounds and no finals he is home in WA plus he is 29 and won't be part of any premiership,by the way i think he wants to go back.So if that's the case this is awin - win.
Stkilda won't deal for ball for what we are offering they want peake so give them them peake.and a second round pick dael done.
Aside from about 8 players in this draft it is a very weak draft.next year there are some good kids coming but they will go to gold coast,
90% of our team is 22 years and younger.
Lets solidify what we need to get.like agood ruckman,a strong in and under midfielder who want to play for usand eventually win a few flags, don't you think its a coincidence that every time we have played finals since 02 when leon was involved he always went missing year in year out.I don't want a footballer that performs up to the end of home and away games only.

Yeah, n' as an alternative so does WCE pick 22 + player Saints willing to accept as a package with pick 30. We then get Ball n' 20 or 22.

That's solid if Davis wants to leave. You don't get full val if they request to leave, just as Syd will probably have to accept pick 14 only for Jolly

IMHO the Saints gave too much for Lovett, as did the Blues with McLean.
I dont understand why now they expect the Pies to basically 'drop their pants' and make ridiculous deals for Ball and Fev.
If Leon isnt 'a finals player' why would the Saints want a bar of him? They should heavily feature in September again in years to come. So with that logic Perth may be the place for him. WCE or Freo could do with an experienced face around the club to help develop some of the younger blokes.

Ball would compliment Davis beautifully. When we get smashed around stoppages, Davis and Didak don't get fed the ball, hence they go missing. Jolly and Ball will increase their output. Why trade our second best user of the ball when out disposal overall is bad enough already? Trade our first and second rounders, plus a decent fringe player to land Ball and Jolly.

The Saints' window won't be open for all that long. Maybe 2 more years I'd say. Using pick 16 would've been stupid, and getting someone like Lovett is going to make them a nightmare midfield to matchup on. At Essendon, he got the number 1 or 2 tag, at the Saints, he won't even get looked at. He will get fed the ball like crazy and dominate in 2010. Saints to win the flag.

Bingo.

People will complain endlessly next season when as the most clanger prone team in the AFL becomes even more clanger prone than it already is by trading away one of our top two classiest finishers, replaced by someone whom can't kick 35 metres.

Who cares if we win the stoppages if we are just going to turn it over anyway? Davis is far from our most important player, but his value in this team is much greater than people posting in this thread realise. Davis is worth a late first round pick at the very least.

i feel our midfield lacks pace as it is, if we trade leon away for ball I suggest we have a crack at getting wojinski from geelong. If not we will have Didak, Swan, Ball + Obree as our Mids, easily the slowest midfield in the comp.
