Great win by Lleyton Hewitt to continue on Australia's complete dominance of this tie.

There was no doubt that Australia was going to win this Davis Cup tie easily but I don't think anyone expected Lleyton to have to pull out of 1st gear like he did. The English lad played far better than anyone expected him too.

Would like to see Hewitt and Philippoussis playing doubles together to see how they go playing together but it seems as though it will be Hewitt and Woodbridge.

The tie is over, Hewitt and Woodbridge won the doubles. I dont know the score cause I only saw them get interviewed after the match. Does anybody know what the score was??

Brazil now lead Sweden 2-1 in Sweden the winner to face Australia. If Brazil win it will be in Australia most probably on grass. If Sweden manage to win the final two rubbers the quarter-final will be in Sweden.

Go Brazil!!

Would we play on grass? Kuerten doesn't have the greatest record in the Aus open so I would have thought that we will play on rebound ace.

I reckon we'd definetly go with grass if we were to play Brazil. Although Kuerten hasn't had much success at the Aus Open he has had success on rebound ace such as this year when he won the tournament in New Zealand the week before the Australian Open.
I can't remember Kuerten ever doing much on grass and with the Wimbledon champion in our side and Philippoussis whose game will be suited to grass. Although Andre Sa the Brazilian number 2 did make the Wimbledon quarter finals last year but I still think a grass court is the obvious choice.

Who was the idiot that let Todd Woodbridge play a singles match ? :o :o

Even a hack Pom is better than him.

Frankly, who cares ? It was a dead rubber so I see no problem in letting woodbridge play it. Woodbridge is a specialist doubles player these days so to expect him to win would be absurd. He was against the only decent english player anyway I think, the one hewitt played.

Oh how did I figure you'd go and say he was the only decent one.

Nevermind the fact that he was 120 world rankings behind the one Mark played.

No. I was told that bogdanovic was ranked higher. Maybe I was told wrong.

From memory. The guy Hewitt played was ranked about 457.

The guy Mark played was ranked 330ish.
Probably doesn't make a huge difference as there is probably little difference in points between the players, but it was a pretty silly comment to make.

Australia will be going to Malmo for their quarter final clash with Sweden after Jonas Bjorkman and Andreas Vinciguerra won their reverse singles against Gustavo Kuerten and Flavio Saretta respectively.

Just had a look for myself.

Bogdanovic ranking 2002 - 245
Mackin ranking 2002 - 285

Snippet out of news article ...

"After trailing the 457th-ranked Bogdanovic 2-4, love-30 in the first set, Hewitt upped the ante to win 17 of the last 21 games to close out the match in one hour 56 minutes and take his tally to an impressive 19 wins from 24 singles rubbers for Australia.

Philippoussis, playing his first tie in three years and first on home soil since the 1997 quarter-final against the Czech Republic in Adelaide, overcame a nasty case of pre-match nerves to deny Mackin, the world No.331, in one hour 43 minutes.
"

I would this is more accurate.

I dont.

That is probably based on events played for the 1 month of the new season. My figures relate to all of 2002.

I'd say Easty's figures are from the 2002 Champions Race. I'd say Mase's news snippet figures are their current world rankings (not to be confused with the 2003 Champions Race rankings). For instance, Hewitt's current world ranking is 1, but his 2003 Champions Race ranking is some large figure.

Woodbridge's singles berth would have been a gold watch for long service.
