Mark Philippoussis - he had to catch a flight out to a tournament in the States. Some sources are reporting that part of his "deal" to play the tie was that he wouldn't be required to play any dead rubbers and Woodbridge was none to happy about it.

Bogdanovic finished the 2002 Champions Race in position 245. Alan Mackin 285 so as McAlmanac said easty's figures were from the 2002 champions race.
On the ATP entry system Mackin is 331 and Bogdanovic is 457

Australia will be going to Malmo for their quarter final clash with Sweden after Jonas Bjorkman and Andreas Vinciguerra won their reverse singles against Gustavo Kuerten and Flavio Saretta respectively.

Buggers. I was hoping Brazil would win, so they could play the Davis Cup on grass... hopefully Royal Kings Park in Perth.

Has a date been set on the Sweden vs Australia clash?

Fitzy said in the paper today that he decided to rest both Hewitt and Mark from the last two 'dead' rubbers.

It is true that Mark was to fly out today, but if he said if he was required to play he wasn't going anywhere. The decision was made so that Philippoussis could get the best preperation for the tournie as possible.

I understand that and think it's best to play other in the dead rubbers (not Woodbridge but that's another story).

I was merely making the point that Flip's departure to the States was the cause of Woodbridge playing.

The article below from Fox Sports makes it seem more like it was the timing and getting Mark to the States that was the casue rather than Fitzy deciding to rest him.

And that is all good and well I reckon.

I cant see the point in why we even play the 2 dead rubbers in the first place. If a country is up 3-0 they should be awarded the tie and be done with it.
