What does everyone else think of daylight saving?
It started in Tassie at the weekend. I spent the weekend in Melbourne so arriving back in Hobart last night I literally lost an hour in time.
The change over to daylight saving has never bothered me before, but actually coming into a time zone that was one hour ahead completely disorientated me. I can't believe that just one hour could throw my body clock out so much.
Does anyone else ever have problems with the change over?

It should be common amongst the states/cities that share the same time zones. I think Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania all have different dates on which it starts.

And let me guess...that time you were supposed to spend with me sharing a champagne sorbet just happened to be in that "lost" hour.

Queensland don't have it. But, yes it should be the same in NSW, Vic and Tassie.

When does it start in Victoria?

Funny you should mention it, Rohan; I was actually thinking about DST this morning as I was waking up.

The addage of "spring forward, fall back" applies here in Australia as it does in the USA as well, right?

As for the changeover, Bee, I have no problem at all. I think one's body gets used to it after a certain point in time, with the six-month biological cycles and all-- but then again, it's child's play compared to the changes associated with a 15-hour flight across the Pacific from California! :D

Cheers,
William

And I think its about time that Perth joined the rest of the country too.

All this crap about curtains fading and the cows milking times out of whack is hillarious crap.

Being behind 3 hours every summer must not be good for our economy as the businesses in the east are gone by 2pm our time.

Some businesses need parts or whatever overnight and normally get upset if you cant help them before lunchtime here in Perth.

End of the month. The same as NSW. Tasmania did too, but a few years ago they decided to start it three weeks earlier. I don't know why Vic and NSW can't do the same. Afterall, Tassie first introduced DLS, years ago and the other states follwed their lead. It's stupid having different time zones for 3 weeks.

Thanks for the info, Bee. :)

And yeah, totally nonsensical about the different time zones' implementation of DLST. The whole country, Tasmainia and Queensland included, should be on a uniform system.

How come they don't use it in QLD? Doesn't make sense to me...

Cheers,
William

Ooops! You should have asked your mate. He knew I was back. :p ;)

In Qld they actually had a referendum on it. Its the same here in WA, we have voted on it three times and each time it has been defeated (with a greater majority).

None of the other states have actually given their people the chance to vote on it.

About 10 years ago NSW finished daylight saving in early March and we were an hour behind Victoria for about 3 weeks. That was a fiasco that should never have happened.
Daylight saving's great. There's not much point in having daylight at 5am when hardly anyone's up; better to not have it go dark until an hour later - we don't have to turn the lights on till later and it saves electricity.

It's going to confuse me this year, it'll change in Victoria and less than a week later I'm moving to Queensland so it'll TOTALLY throw me out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA it's gonna be worth it. :D ;)

The latest excuse for Perth is that "we do more of our business with Asia, than in the Eastern States"

Stupid because being 1 hour in front of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea wouldn't make a big difference.
