We should seriously think about him in this years trade period isn't getting the chances at Port would slot in nicely at Carlton

I think Port understands he is their future #1 ruck and will stay there.

However, if he or a Luke Power or whoever were to ask to be traded we should not offer any of our early picks (no first or 2nd rounders). Brogan turns 27 later this year aferall, and is definitely not worth sacrificing an early pick for. We need to start building a side of youngsters of our own.

We'll get the #1 pick in the PSD so we should be ruthless and convince one of these stars to nominate for the PSD and then we can snag them for free ala Stevens.

na i think brogan will go port dont see him as there number 1 ruckman look last week they pick primus and lade b4 him its been like that since he came back from suspention so yeah i dont think he will be at port next year

same thing happend with french remember and u's ended up with him coz he was sick of not getting a go.

i think ur spot on about ur picks get the youngsters and then pick up a decent player in the PSD jsut rebuild correctly.

dont look for a quick fix but no matter what get behind them and support what they do dont sit back and give them heaps of ********

It's an issue between Brogan and Port Adelaide. However Carlton should contact Brogan and let him know that a) He would be the number 1 ruckman and b) He'll be paid well.

what about bryan and french mate??? i rate french higher than brogan ... onyl way it could work is if bryan can hold down chb!!! that'd be a super result, not sure if he could handle it tho???? but we SHOULD give it a try i think.

As hard as French tries and as good as he's been for us, Brogan is twice the ruckman. Better skills, better athlete, more versatile, just a better player period.

Port are stuffing around with him now, but they aren't dumb. They know Lade and Primus are nearing the end and Brogan will be their ruckman for the next 5-6 years.

I don't think Dean Brogan is that good...

If we get him so be it, but I wouldn't stress about it.

Ditto.

Someone like Cox would be nice - but I can't see that happening at all.

Well you would have to wait until the end of 2006 because that is when Brog's is contracted to Port Adelaide. And all our boys have resigned this year and there is a few more to come yet. Brogs will stay with us!!

Easy - just throw him in with the Judd - Walker/Whitnall/Pick 1 & 2 deal :D

Brogan won't be traded
He won't be traded, far from it. Just a crazy media beat-up.
This is why things are as they are with his recent non selection:
1. There would have been an element of discipline from Chocco after Brogan was suspended for head butting. He let us down at a time we really needed him. Plus he'd been a bit 'ratty' on field, arguing with umpires and giving awau 50m penalties and the like. And he'd been making numerous uncharacteristic skill errors.
2. Primus and Lade have been getting picked first recently when Chocco only wanted 2 rucks because they fit better into our forward set-up when not rucking. It is our forward set-up that has struggled more than any other area this year. Tredrea is our only reliable tall there. White and Thurstans have failed to fire and Port has run out of time to be patient, we will now struggle to make the eight. Brogan has most often been used as an extra defender.
Why he wouldn't want to go
* Brogan will be our #1 ruckman from 2007, and will play most games until then. He is more likely to experience success here in the future than in many of the clubs that would seek him if he was available for trade.
* He has a premiership medal with the PAFC.
* He is South Australian.
You don't need him anyway
We all have to watch out for the Fremantle trap of continually trying to sort out problems with imports. Occassionally we can have a lucky break where a player falls into our hands who does make a difference (Stevens for you, Pickett for us). But it rarely is as good as proper drafting and evelopment.
It isn't as if you have ruck problems from my point of view. Barnaby French is a pretty good player. When he was with us he was good for a few goals on top.
