Is this true?

http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/news/2001/08/15/FFX4F8JKCQC.html

More importantly, do we really need/want him? I'm not denying he's a great player, but we do have our fair share of small midfielders / forwards, who seem to be injury prone... Are we targetting him because he's a player we truly need, or just because he's a WAussie?

I'm all for bringing the WA kids home, but with Deano.... I just don't know...

Hmm interesting....i too am unsure of whether he would be worth that amount of money. Do we really need another overweight forward?

I would rather go all out after Gasper, i still think he is a chance.

I am so glad you don't want Deano, because we do.

Anyway peoples, are we going to meet up before , during, or after, or all of the above, for round 21?

I think the Subi Hotel is a good place to meet before the game, your thoughts if you know somewhere better, seeing as you are regulars.:D

Definately we should target Gaspar. At 25 there's still a good 5+ years left in him.

Our defence is what's going to need the most reinforcing, so to secure Gaspar would be teriffic. As callous as it sounds, we need to play the 'lil bro card for all it's worth, I mean, what other real reason would he leave Richmond for us? Other than money of course.....

I don't think we will get Gaspar, he will re-sign. I don't think we need him either. Our defence looks quite good now with Glass, Carrol, Williams and Collica playing tall. Add Milli, Prior, Morrisson and Jako and that is fair depth. Dont forget our own Gaspar too.

Rioli is brilliant but looks unfit and lethargic. If he isn't a 110% performer we should not go for him.

10 Bombers are out of contract at year end.

I still think we need another class midfielder to compliment Cuz. Simon Black would have been my first choice but there is no chance of that. Chick would have been good. Shane Crawford awesome. But clubs rarely let their superstars go, so we need to find an up and coming player that could be very good. Maybe a Haselby but I have my doubts about him too.

I agree with Frodo that, as a top priority, we need another tough midfielder in the Kerr or Chick mould to provide toughness and skilled disposal into the forward line.

Rioli is a very good player who would be a welcome acquisition, but I wouldn't pay too much for him and upset our salary structure. It's always a risk taking the best team's "not quite consistently in the top 22" - that's what the Eagles used to discard in the early '90s and the only two who really went well elsewhere were Dean Laidley and Matt Connell (I know Matthew Clape won a premiership at Carlton, but I wouldn't say we made a mistake).

I'd like him in the side and would play him as a "burst" player out of the midfield into the forward line, but he'd have to be realistic and take less money for the honour of playing for the greatest team in WA. He'd also have to bring a strong work ethic and less fat with him, but maybe he can "do a Merenda".

How about we go for Des Headland? I heard he is eager to come back hometo WA.

He's a pretty good player, was the #1 pick a few years back and would be the type of player we need. We could offer him a good deal and he would definately jump at it.....unless he's changed his mind considering how well the lions are going.

I don't want Rioli, Pickett, Farmer or any small forward. Also, as someone stated above we don't really need Gaspar. I say go for Headland and maybe Lucas from essendon.

I don't see why everyone keeps referring to Rioli as a "small" forward. Ben Cousins and I share the view that he is not small but rather big and tough (wasn't it he who hurt Cuz with a bump in the Essendon game?).

He's a big, bustling, some would say fat, but fast midfielder/forward.

please explain? The phrase "aging, inconsistent hack" comes to mind when you mention Scott Lucas. Why? He's in my fantasy football team, and is getting outpointed by Mitchell White! :D

Brilliant at times, but normally looks slow and fat......nuff said!

PS I've probably gone and offended some bomber supporter now!

I've heard that too, he has a West Aussie g/f & they have a small baby. But in saying that wasn't there a newspaper article recently about how his family had moved to QLD to be closer to him for support etc? Could be wrong, it may have been one of the other 5 or so WA's on Brisbanes list.

Headland's only about 20 I think, so he obviously has plenty of years left in him. But I think daddy-4-eyes could be right, Brissy are going pretty well, may be hard to lure him back all things considered.

Oh and i disagree with the backline comments. Jakovich and Milli are getting older and Wirrpunda i think will eventually move away from defence. That leaves Collica, Carroll, Glass and Gasper as talls in defence.

That looks good on paper and is actually working quite well on the field but the one thing it lacks is a little class. Darren Gasper would certainly fill that role. With Read Morrison and Wooden playing small backmen then i think our defence would be solid.

We must at least play on the home state, the little brother angle and throw him a tonne of cash......see what happens??
