Aaron Hamill should have done what Solomon has done when he was offered the big bucks elsewhere, he would of now been captain of Carlton and on at least as much as he's earning at St Kilda.

Dean Solomon and Essendon will come out the winner from his situation.

Excellent post.
Big Jack, for all his short comings took a lot of uneccessary heat from Hamills departure.
No two ways about it, he left for the cash - he had the gall to point the finger at everyone else but his own greed.
we can all see now why we werent able to offer him more cash - maaan imaginre if they did that, we would be banned from drafts till 2010 !

Love it when Carltons revival will lead to players wanting to join us again, leaving crap clubs like the Saints & leaving Hamill to wallow in his own mediocrity & the greatest club that has embraced under performance in the history of the AFL / VFL.

Hope Goddard leaves them next year.......
as a great man once said - "Suffer in ya jocks !"

baaad. fair enough he was courageous and all, but he was never a star like what they have made him to look like. remember that game against the lions in the semi final when he kicked 7 goals, one of the only times he got more goals than behinds.

even in the afl live games he is up there with all the saints bests with attributes.

3 years on and nothing has changed, still complaining about Hamill. For what its worth he has been an excellent acquisition, worth every cent. You say he wasn 't a star as we made him out to be, yet you keep talking about him.

Worry about your own money hungry players, surely you could think of one player for your club arguably on the highest wage in the comp that would not be amongst the 50 best running around.

Not really, I can think of one that had more hard ball gets than anybody in the comp this year and who Leigh Matthews would like to have 22 of in his triple premiership winning side. I can think of someone who clearly should have won the 2000 Brownlow medal but did win the AFLPA award and who really stood out in a Carlton side after coming back from two knee operations. I will keep looking though. Maybe you are referring to those dinky little top 50 lists media people release where they are loathe to include anyone injury prone and cream themselves over the whole list of some over performing side as if their 10th ranked player would be in the same class as the top ranked player at a struggling side.

I call those my 'get some perspective' lists. Some people though ... well they know no better so they swear by them.

Anyone claiming Hamill is "not that good" is ridiculously wrong. The guy is a great player, and the best defensive forward in football. HE stood up in big games, like the lions game mentioned, and the final against Essendon. He put a lot of body work in, and created loose balls for players like Lappin and Campo to run onto. Hamill would have stayed if Elliot was not such a ****er, and he was offering to stay for less with us.

Hamill also took a hell of a lot of heat from Whitnall, due to his bustling ways, and Lance has never been the same since he left. Thank god Fev is living up to his rep, because with Fev, Laurie, Waite, Lappin, and Fischer up forward Lance should come into his own again.

22 of them would not win premierships - they'd all be paid so much that your club would be kicked out by the AFL.
