AFL TRADE RUMOUR:
Dean Solomon (ESS) to be traded for Heath Scotland (COLL) and Draft Pick 17 (COLL).

If either team unsatisfied then Essendon's third round draft pick and Mark McGough/Shane O'Bree/Steve McKee are deemed expendable.

Reasons it is looking more likely:
Sheedy rates Heath Scotland very highly, higher then most opposition supporters and believes he could be the replacement for Joe Misiti.

Collingwood views Dean Solomon as a Scott Burns type player who will step up into Burns' current role in three years.

Note: Solomon would not be getting $400,000 a year at Collingwood, more like $300,000 - $350,000 depending on the offloading/salary reducing of certain current overpaid players. ie: S.O'Bree ($290,000+)

First contract after moving from Brisbane. Would get more from other clubs but seeing as Collingwood are one of the only clubs to pay players what they are worth and not cheat the salary cap (see carlton and Glenn Manton getting $290,00+ also) he is either going to have to take a $$$cut or be moved on.

Knowing our luck, Scoots would play to his usually good standard and the Scum recruiting staff would fluke another Ramanauskas with pick 17 and we'd never hear the end of it!

FWIW, that trade hypothetical is biased in Essendon's favour.

Stevens is better than Soloman and I'm not sure I'd pay that for Stevens. Solomon can play and I like his style but we have enough mediocre skilled players as it is. If we got Solomon I'd much rather offload players like O'Bree who's skills are not in the same league as Scotland. O'Bree should be sold off IMO anyway. He is our miost expendable midfieder and if we get Stevens he should not get a game. If he struggles to hold his place he will be worth nothing next year. O'Bree and whatever we can get for McKee, Kinnear and Betheras somewhere for Solomon or Scotland and whatever we can get for the aforementioned 4 players for Stevens. Short of that we should just take whatever we can get for these 4 and work on a deal for McDonnald from a (finaly) salary cap hampered Brisbane. For McDonnald or someone of his ilk I'd happily trade Scotland, O'Bree, Kinnear, McKee betheras and our round 1 and 4 draft picks and work on Brayden Shaw and the existing players with McDonnald in the ruck to improve the midfield. We are not a midfielder short of Brisbane we are a ruckman short of a premiership (still).
