i find the debate around it and what constitutes a game to be more interesting than the game looks. i can appreciate that it might be different and involves more of an experience than actual play, but i don't think i'll play it as it were. i might go and play myst instead, for example. or there was an old game called 'D'.

Had d and myst on Saturn. Frigging sweet games. myst especially.

Amazing how myst felt creepy only using still frames

I bought it a few nights ago. It only lasted 90mins but I don't regret the money spent at all. It's an amazingly atmospheric and well written, though sombre story that slowly but surely comes together as you explore environments like these around a lonely Scottish Island...

It seems that the makers of Dear Esther have announced their next game... which is working with Frictional on a sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Its quite an interesting mix, and should hopefully boost the quality of Amnesia's writing as well as art design whilst keeping the quality of the gameplay and atmosphere in tact. With Amnesia being a big success for Frictional, and them coming out saying they wanted to do something a little different than their last games, it only makes sense that they would palm off the sequel to another developer. Hopefully it works out for the best...

Just finished it. Took me a little under 2 hours, although I replayed the first level a few times trying to get to that shipwrecked boat...it seems you can't swim there. And the save system doesn't seem to work either, which was annoying to have to start over from the start of the game each time.

Wasn't bad, I'd like a little more of a substantial ending. But I guess the open nature leaves it up to your own interpretations, which isn't terrible.

The writing was fantastic and the game looked beautiful at times.

Worth the $10? I wouldn't say yes, but I wouldn't say no.

If you want a very atmospheric and touching game then go for it. But if you want something that will give you some bang for your buck then you'd want to stay away as it is very short (although some worth in replaying as you get different dialogue at same sections).
