Which players do you think will make their debuts in AFL for Geelong this year and how many games do you think they'll play (that's tough, but maybe a guess)?
I'd guess we'd have four players to debuts for us this year:
1. Varcoe (6-9 games, I have high hopes for him).
2. Prismall (4-8 games, he played well in the NAB Cup and I think they should bring him in now).
3. Stokes (3-6 games, use him more as a crumbing forward).
4. Spencer (2-4 games, I have doubts about Spencer, he looked a bit slow in the NAB Cup and I don't think we can fit him in our defence with 5 talls already - Scarlett, Harley, Egan and Mooney & Milburn who are always alternating (Mooney ruck, Milburn forrward).

-Prismall should get to make his debut very soon! MAYBE even this week! ;)

-Spencer will get a game this year in the snr's only if we have lots of injuries. So if last year is anything to go by he will make his debut this year.

-I doubt Varcoe will get to make his debut this year. Has he aven played much VFL? I don't really know much about this dude except e has #5! :thumbsu:

-Stokes is a cutie but I don't think he will get a game yet. He needs more time in the VFL. :)

would be very surprised if Prismall didn't get a gig this year, he has what it takes to slot into a midfielder/small forward rotation spot. Spencer might get a game soon, with our current lack of tall defenders available. Varcoe not sure, I guess that all depends on the coaching hierarchy's politics whether he gets a game or not this year - they didn't put him into the #5 jumper for no reason.

Prismall would be very close to selection, as his VFL has been superb and his NAB Cup form was excellent for a youngster.

Spencer could very well play this week....even more so if Egan pulls out.

I'm liking Todd Grima. Seemed to be doing alright in the praccy matches and has played resonable in the previous VFL games. Trent West may even get called up. Young raw ruckman but with injuries to King and Ottens. All it takes is Blake to go down (let there be a God) and Geelong are relying on Mooney and who else?

I also rate Grima, was surprised no one drafted him with a late pick. I've seen plenty that have been drafted that are much worse.

As for Blake, an absolute shyteful player who really is too ugly to represent Geelong. And no one say anything about Linga, im led to believe he's found a little niche with the ladies so i congratulate him. He can also play a bit too!

I was also surprised when Grima wasn't picked up in the Draft last year and I was hoping that we'd then get him on the rookie list and we did. I don't think he'll be playing AFL this season, but he might next year. Does he usually play full-forward?

What has Blake done wrong? Don't forget he is still only developing...

Unfortunantly, he will turn into another Peter Street. Doesn't have the body to bulk up, not like a Hille, Jolly or Cox. He doesn't get much of the ball and when he does, looks to hand pass it off... his a liability in the Geelong team.

If you're old enough, have a think about his dad Rod and how he developed as a ruckman. For years he was just a "good ordinary" tap ruckman, and really only got a game because Bluey Hampshire went to Footscray. At his best in 1980 Rod dominated, and was still light on.

Mark actually held his own in several ruck contests against Spida on Saturday. Certainly didn't beat him but that would be asking a bit much. It will take time as Bomba has already said, but I have confidence that he'll develop into a top player like his dad.

As far as debuts are concerned, Sunday marks the highly anticipated premiere of Dopey in the hoops.

Seb must be giddy ;)

Given that Will Slade just spent 2 years out with OP, and yet was seemingly always just a few weeks from playing, then I doubt anyone will even think about him until he is running in the VFL.

Did Owen play? He's still named on the Injury List I think.
Great to hear Gamble and Stokes have been doing okay and Varcoe playing his first game this Saturday.

I noticed that Varcoe was named in the reserves in the forward pocket, is this his first game after returning from injury?

Yep.Him & Harley are playing their first games for the year.Ricco did play a half in a practice match [early Feb],but this is his first game since then.

I'll have a post match report from Tassie after I make a call to "coaching staff" to check outcome with Varcoe and Harley.

Hope they both get through.
