Am out in the middle of woop woop working so internet is ****ed and i can only check the occasional score and read the occasional article...hence i need some geelong fix to help me get through the working month! Appreciate if people could help me out here.

Ok, Whats the latest on Egan? I see we got toweled up by Kositzke on the weekend and am wondering who really is next in line to take a key CHF. Taylor i hear is allright and would be a good matchup on a Franklin but would get outmuscled a bit by the bigger boys. Lonergan seems to be struggling a bit.... Guess one J.Brown might give us a workover this week.

I haven't heard much on Prismall this week...did he get much game time against the saints? People have been saying his disposal lets him down, but from what i have seen he is normally pretty decent. Varcoe and Djeurka seem to be a bit quiet as well.

What about Blake and West? I hear West is pretty mobile, and Blake is tapping pretty well (per norm), but does anyone see them stepping up to the likes of Lade, Sandilands, White etc...

Allright, that will do me for now...would appreciate any informed opinions, news is pretty skint out here.

Egan: just had a bone graft on his foot, according to Neil Balme he should be back rounds 3-8 at the earliest.

Prismall had a fair bit of game time but had a shocker.

Varcoe did one nice thing (took on one Saints player and got around him) but that was about it. Needs to be more confident and take them on.

Djerkurra is injured again, thigh I think. Doesn't seem to be going in as hard as he did last year. And most importantly, kicking seems to be a major problem.

West: yes looks very mobile and should get games in seniors if Blake or Ottens miss. Still heaps of room for improvement but that will come with game time/experience.

Blake: looks much better than last year, seems more confident and is kicking more. Let's hope he can keep it up all year.

I would suggest the defence would line- up as follows for Round 1:
Hunt - Scarlett - Harley
Mackie - Milburn - Taylor

Milburn will no doubt take the 2nd best forward until Egan returns, as he did in the finals last year. Scarlett will be forced to control CHB as well, which is no issue at all, he's done it just about every year he's played. Against teams like Essendon, with Lucas and Lloyd, then there may be some quandries for the match committee.

Taylor I'm sure will play and be used in the role of sweeper, getting to contests and lending support for his fellow backman, similar to a Nathan Bassett type, or Jason Cloke (when he had that one good year).

Structure is still impeccibly strong, not much will get through.

for me, still to early to call on Taylor, want to see him in the season proper.

wasnt prismalls best game but i reckon he should be in our best 22, though i have no idea who i would leave out.

west does look very mobile and im sure he'll get some experience in the seniors sometime this year, promising player i think

and to me lonergan looks a little too skinny to be a kpp, but maybe thats because he 's a little behind now in his development. admire the guy immensly for what hes been through and hope he does well, but i have my doubts about him making it as a regular senior player.

4 goals to hawkins in a game that u would hardly say was a dominant player is very promising. at times i thought he looked a little lost but perhaps as well the quality of disposal towards him wasnt as sharp as it will be during the year. unless he gets injured i cant see him being out of the seniors much if at all.

Hunt - Scarlett - Harley
Mackie - Milburn - Taylor

I'd imagine it be:

Hunt - Scarlett - Wojcinski
Milburn - Harley - Mackie

Milburn could take the CHB at times but i'd guess Harley with his strength would be better suited. I like having Wojcinski back there to run off his man, he can alternate between defense and midfield in stints. With Egan gone, Scarlett has to stay at home instead of running the ball out like he does so well.

Think they'll go with basically the same structure they used in the finals last year, HT looks a fair way off being a senior player at present, certainly as a KPP, which I think Geelong were hoping for, that he could fill in for Egan and release Harley for the type of role he played all year.

There's no hope of him doing that IMO so there's not much point in playing him, we're well covered for defenders of his type as it is.

I'm with Renegade here. Minor quibble and likely not worth worrying about, but isn't it 'defence', not 'defense'?

Spot on. Taylor / Lonergan will not be required unless we get another injury to one of the above or we come up against a StKilda type forward line... even then it's manageable. If either of Hunt, Scarlett or Milburn went down it would hurt lots with Egan out.

If you're from the Commonwealth, yes.

I would not expect much from Eagan until the 2nd half of the season. Taylor was ordinary. OK at best but did not look like he could play a shut down role like Eagan. Seemed to be good at knowing when to 'zone off' and ran the ball well but again his disposal and decision making did not look up to scratch. He could be handy but I would not want to rely on him for much at this stage. J Brown will give any backman in the comp a workover if given a chance.

Prismall was disappointing against the Saints but we know he can play. His disposal doesn't seem to bad to me, I think we can surely find him a spot this year. Varcoe does good things... the two or three times he gets the ball a match. Still not finding it or looking to find it enough. Was still being led to the play by his opponent. Has a hell of a lot to work on. These are the games he should be featuring in as his chances may be few and far between.

Can't say much (I'm no ruck coach) apart from that I'm very impressed by both. Good rucks and get around the ground with ease. Blake showing much more confidence in his disposal.
