Best player in the league when the opposition backmen has the ball would go to the Roos' Byron Pickett.
Pickett is quite good when he has the ball, but he is awesome when he doesn't have it. His ability to apply pressure, tackle, bump and harass the opposition when they have it is unsurpassed.
Pickett's change to a forward has dramatically helped to hold the ball in the forward line. Pickett is freed up to wreak havoc on any opposition backman who thinks he has got a clean possession.
He amasses more tackles. Not just the most for any player on his forward line, but that figure can be the team high.
Gavin Wanganeen was also a brilliant back-pocket player in and around the year he won his Brownlow Medal. Now a formidable forward capable of holding the ball in his forward line.
West Coast's David Wirrpunda is another in a similar mould to Pickett and Wanganeen. He is a brilliant, and was an overly creative backman, who follows his instincts and is exceptional as a forward.
Hawthorns Chick as he did against the Tigers showed how to attack with vigor, tackle harrass knock the ball loose to teammates advantage and never ever give up the chase for the ball.
We crave for in-and-under players in the mid-field, but we also need them similar to those I've mentioned in our forward set-up, to hold the ball in there longer and kick goals. We have one in Rogers but nowhere near the class of those mentioned.
