Why when the opposition are moving the ball well do we have constant mismatches in defence?

Hawkins had McDonald wright and Hansen in 1v1s at times,

Whose fault is this, and does the attacking mentality aid in these lapses?

Quick turnovers from kickouts caused a few of the mismatches. When they were well on top they squeezed us at the first kick so Hawkins was invariably caught with the kicker, Dal or Wright.

so many times i saw Thompson happy to stand 4-5 meters infront of hawkins and let Dal or Mcdonald take Hawkins while Thompson waits for the loose kick into the forward line and he just picks it off, problem is if our midfield isnt on top and the ball is actually coming in well, thompson is out of position all the time but if our midfield is on top, thompsons a champ because he usually picks it off and sets up an attack for us.
