So Balta pushes english in the back. Nothing accidental or 'split second' about it, just a straight forward shove. This time, it was his own team mate that got taken out with concussion, but it could have easily been the other way around, and english is already on shaky grounds with multiple concussions. Or a knee, etc...

The AFL is so hard on head high contact, even trivial head contact from a tackle, which is much harder for the player to control, can result in suspension.

Should players be reported for shoving into a contest?

From a traditional 'purist' point of view, even, there is no downside - theres nothing 'hard' about shoving someone in the back. upside is more high marks, goals and less injuries

Known as the Tom Hawkins manoeuvre.

I vaguely remember a case similar to this going to match review panel involving I think Stefan Martin, Gary Ablett and another player. Perhaps someone can find the footage of that.

Oh wait, I found it. It was May ironing out Martin after Gary gave him a nudge, but there's nothing untoward from Gary and a lot of it from May.

If a player through pushing an opponent in the back ends up causing a "Blues Brothers" level pile up that ends up with multiple players of the opposition concussed and taken off the ground just let that player go. Hell give him an award because there is no way anyone could premeditate that.

Willem Drew was pushed by a Geelong player into Jeremy Cameron, hitting heads and dazing Cameron, some time before Cameron's head bounced off the ground after the attempted mark.

Another reason why he should have been tested properly off the field.
