All the clubs talk about getting quality talls, and they leave Deluca to a much later the anticipated selection.

Must say I was shocked along with the non-selection of Sharp, Bain, Kirkby, Grundy, Gilham.

yeah i thought deluca would have gone early i guess we picked up ackland at like a ridiculous 33 and probably would have taken him if we didn't want experienced players

Deluca's work ethic or apparent lack of it steered clubs away!

fabian does work hard. should have been picked up alot earlier. should of stayed in melb

The real issue with Fabian is his lack of mobility and work around the ground. The era of the simple tap ruckman (ie Matthew Clarke) is dying, ruckmen now are expected to be an eighteenth member of the team, not just a feeder for the other seventeen.

In normal circumstances there might be 3 ruckmen in the draft and unless you jumped in early you would risk missing out or having to try and 'manufacture' a pick late.

This year there were a lot more options and the increase in supply drove down the prices. There are enough good tall options that most clubs will feel confident about rookie-listing one. Guys like Shaw, Batson, van Shaik and Foster are still available.

With Meesan, Wood, DeLuca, Moran, Ackland and Bryan in the draft and Pattison, Franklin, Gibson, Williams and Willits all potential ruck options as well there were plenty to go around this year.

Everything I've read said he was fairly mobile.

apparantly he is already homesick just thinking about leaving vic. port will have a fight on their hands to keep him IMO.
