SWANS great Dennis Carroll will return to the club to be Player Welfare and Development Manager. He'll start from October 12. I'd have thought this was a good move all-round for Sydney.

I think this news has just been made public, not sure.

an interesting appointment.... given he was in a secure job in an unrelated field for the last 20 years.... curious as to who approached whom

but this is probably a good appointment.... a former swan with high credentials.... and he's been involved in the assistant coaching type role at the club in the past (correct me if i'm wrong)

Bugga, just beat me to it, was just about to post it.

Well done on Carroll to get the position, a true legend of the Swans. :)

Good move,

Was the Reserves Coach in 1995 when the Reserves made the Grand Final when the AFL still had a Reserves Competition which contained a fair few members of our 1996 Grand Final team and was an early favourite to replace Barassi before pulling because of his work committments. Become Chairman of Selectors under Eade for the first few year of his coaching role at the Swans before moving onto the Club Board.

Stood down to focus fulltime on his job in 2003.

Personally this is a great appointment and will be a great bridge between the players and coaching staff, the coaching staff and Andrew Ireland and Andrew Ireland and Colless and the Board.

Hopefully we get a few other changes to the coaching staff as well and we have had a positive change off field. Hopefully we can make some good draft choices and bring on 2010.

This is happening too much Robbie,i absolutely agree with everything you said.
Great man Dennis Carroll.

Always happy to see a great clubman like Carroll working for the club. Good appointment.

I dont wanna sound like Im bagging Longmire, but Id have Carroll before him without even knowing, just sayin...

Sighhh .. I was kidding, lad. But I refuse to include those heckin'g smiley bastard things to indicate it.

Bah humbug! I'd rather Carroll too.

... he is still one of the leading u/12's coaches in Sydney South Juniors! PLUS his eldest son just captained the Cronulla 16's to a Flag, and Dennis was a more than adequate runner for them! ... he has been heavily involved in junior footy in recent years, and a strong positive influence ... Dennis will be a huge asset in that Player Welfare type of role ... Well done Swans!
